	yeh i think its about the descent of the music industry into mindless rubbish and the marketing of teenage girls who have no talent, and the way they are propelled into success. "it was punk, yeah it was perfect, now its awful" might be a reference to rip off punk bands and how its not original anymore

	yeah it was. the album came out in '98, so the song might have been written in an earlier year. spears didn't come out until '99.
