This is about how someone lets a relationship fall apart. Its actually a really sad song, How two people could be so perfect for eachother, but it tends to be a one sided deal. Like only one of them feels that way and how they form a dependency on them and they just let them down by not feel the same. The saddest line to me was" to help get me through and feel an emptiness inside"

I think the meaning is obvious. Everyone can relate to it because I'm sure everyone felt this way. You were young, in love, maybe thinking you'll marry your first love and then it just goes wrong. And you know it's falling apart, but you just can't fix it. Best song on the album.

It's funny to hear what other people have to say about this song. Amity is an actual person. She is living in new hampshire and owns a very rad vintage shop on the seacoast. She's an utter sweetheart and has since moved on from elliot. However the song is still beautiful and so is she.

I think this song describes, as many of you have said, a PERFECT relationship that went sour for the wrong reasons. They were both too young to know what it takes to make it work, and although so right for each other, they broke up and now are two lost and lonely people who could have worked out had circumstances been different, or had they been older and more mature. bummer. that happened to me. :[

to me the song means the same as you all interpreted, kinda sad yeah My friends when he listened to it he thought it meant it was about a very close friendship, like the singer and some guy or girl were best friends and then their frindship died or they had a fallout.... I know thats propbably not the actual meaning of the song, but i could see how he could interpret like that, the song dosent directly say they r in love but most see it that way

Yeh this song is definitely exactly how my ex and I both feel about our break up. We dated over two years and I broke it off for stupid reasons and now it just won't work but we're both miserable and lonely. He always told me we could make it work and I know we probably could but I didn't have the energy to try (stupid on my part). In the end I fell for someone else and he finally saw right through me and thats what eventually ended us for good. Pretty much every word in this song I can relate to. Ugh.

It all depends to me, like stated previously by others it means that to me sometimes.. however, sometimes I will ignore some lines and it will mean just the basic innocence of adolensoence, then came highschool.. then people changed, for the worse.

on verse 2 its supposed to be: remember they thought we were too young instead of we thought we were too young that makes more sense, saying that everyone was telling them that they were too young to know what they were getting into and then later it says: till we could show them all they were mistaken they were trying to prove everyone wrong and show that they could have these feelings and that they could make together thats how i see it as
