It's about Cu Chulainn, an legendary warrior in celtic Ireland. He had a crop of firey red hair.

Probably the greatest Irish rock song of all, the riff is indeed O'Neill's March (or Cavalry or Cavalcade as it is also known). It's part of a concept album based on the Tain Bo Cuailgne and describes the boastfulness common among Irish warriors of the time, as well as some of the incidents referred to in The Tain. For example, "like the hawk, I'll swoop...." lines refer to CuChulainn's poractice of picking off the invading Connacht armies one at a time. For teh full story go check out www.horslips.ie and check the albums page. Magnificent song, though. 1

Cú Chulainn was also a warrior of the Red Branch Knights The music itself comes from a traditional Irish Song called O'Neill's March. The Chieftains did a great cover of this on one of their Live CDs
