Ok, this is the correct tab... and i put it along with the lyrics to help you out with timing.

The chords you use are:

E A C#m B D
E: |-----| |-----| |--4--| |--2--| |--2--|
B: |-----| |--2--| |--5--| |--4--| |--3--|
G: |--1--| |--2--| |--6--| |--4--| |--2--|
D: |--2--| |--2--| |--6--| |--4--| |-----|
A: |--2--| |-----| |--4--| |--2--| |-----|
E: |-----| |-----| |--4--| |--2--| |-----|

That's it.

Intro:

E / A / C#m / B x 2 (Piano intro also goes well with this)

Verse 1:

E A C#m B
Woke up this morning from the strangest dream
E A C#m B
I was in the biggest army the world had ever seen
E A C#m B
We were marching as one on the road to the holy grail

E/A/C#m/B

E A C#m B
Started out seeking fortune and glory
E A C#m B
It's a short song but it's one hell of a story
E A C#m
When you spend your lifetime trying to get your hands
B
On the Holy Grail

E/A/C#m/B

A C#m B
Well have you heard about the great crusade
A C#m B
We ran into millions but nobody got paid
A C#m B
We raised four corners of the globe for the holy grail

E/A/C#m/B x 2

Verse 2 (Same chord pattern as Verse 1)
All the locals scattered, they were hiding in the snow
We were so far from home so how were we to know
There'd be nothing left to plunder when we stumbled on the holy grail

( then back to A/C#m/B )

We were full of beans, but we were dying like flies
Those big black birds, they were circling in the sky
And you know what they say, no body deserves to die

( play this bit slightly quieter )

B E
But I
D C#m
I've been searching for an easy way
A E
To escape the cold light of day
D C#m
I've been high and I've been low
A E
But I got nowhere else to go

E/D/C#m/A/E x 2

( Brass solo )

E/A/C#m/B

A
I followed orders
C#m B
God knows where I've been
A
But I woke up alone
C#m B
All my wounds were clean
A
I'm still here
C#m B
I'm still a fool for the holy grail

E/A/C#m/B

You're done.
Have fun, kids.

Yeah indeed great Aussie song. The beginning of the song says "so high."I think this is ambigiuos showing that before he went to sleep he was high and thus had this dream about the holy grail and also it can show how people are high on their faith. The third paragraph - "have you heard about the great crusade" - shows how faith alone can overturn the universe and cause people to go on holy crusades without pay and the amry includes many nationalities of the world - "we raised four corners of the globe." "we were full of beans" is a metaphor for being full of hope and faith that their cause is just, but they we're actually full of beans because they were "dying like flies."The paragraph beginning with "you know i, i've been searching for an easy way" brings us back to the beginning of the song and the thought that he might be high on drugs and/or maybe high on faith. He wants to escape the "cold light of day" so he turns to drugs(or faith), because there's nowhere else to go. In the middle of the song it says "there'd be nothing left to plunder", and at the end it says "im still a fool for the holy grail."To me this shows that the persona wanted to find riches and that that was what crusades were all about, but instead they are for your faith and are full of death and disease.L8er.Cheers!

Acutally I heard (and I can't for the life of me remember where) that the singer said this song was about the army of Napoleon marching into russia. It seems to mostly fit - they all thought he was the best leader ever and he couldn't lose. They thought they were marching and fighting for the glory of France so they were a bit "high" on that.

It's about Napoleon's March on Russia in 1812, and using it as a metaphor for H&Cs attempts to crack the American market.

Ok, this was such an important song for australian music. Aussie Mitch's definition, (Probably because of the full of food bit) Confused me, But it is slang, for Being full of energy and life. I could go into the political side of this, but I wont...laziness ^_^ Amazing song. A classic.

"we were full of beans" is NOT a metaphor for being full of hope and faith as said by von max, its aussie slang for being full of energy eg a full belly of food.

My friend told me that hunters and collectors were carlton supporters, and this song was about when they won the VFL premiership in '87, but then again, she could just be making it up

It is an awesome song, and is one of my favourites! When I hear it, I immediately think of the AFL Grand Final! and I love when they get Hunters and Collectors to sing it live on the big day! 1
