| It's a concept-album on Spawn (the comic-book hero) who literally can't die. Spawn ofcourse is just a retelling of the classic tale of Faust. A retelling closer to the roots appears in Kamelot's Epica+The Black Halo which might be easier to relate to because the guy isn't actually immortal with super-powers. Nevertheless, most songwriters urge the listeners to find their own meaning, and this song is VERY powerful and easy to relate with. | |

| Personally, I think you're both a bit off. This song seems to be a condemnation of modern Christianity, stating that the teachings are twisted and that the Church uses fear to atract people in stead of seeking out those who truly want religion. I say Christianity specifically because the concept of hell and eternal punishment for the sinners are not part of all organized religion. | |

| I'm so sick & tired of people who think every Catholic priest is a molester!!! I've been a faithful Catholic & Altar Boy all my life, and havn't been molested, nor do I know anyone whose been molested by a priest. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying there are just a few isolated events, and it's not just Catholics, I've heard MANY stories of protestant ministers & Jewish Rabbi's molesting kids too. Is it wrong? YES. Should they (Catholics & non-Catholics alike) be punished to the full extent of the law? OF COURSE. Does every Catholic priest do it to every person? HELL NO!!! | |

| I think it kind of takes a stab at religion, but specifically, Christianity or Catholicism. Schaffer mentions the way of repentance: simply apologizing for your sins and a line from what I remember to be the Act of Contrition (for those who don't know, it's usually said before Confession.) 1 | |

| I agree with every single one of you. This is one of my favorite songs for two reasons: It is a song many can relate to on a higher level (schaffersmygod) and the female vocals sound absolutly perfect with Jon. A song that doesn't mix with depression. But yet another reason why Iced Earth is my favorite band. | |

| It's pretty scary considering "Something Wicked This Way Comes" was released before the media made this such a popular subject. There is so much emotion in the lyrics it almost makes you wonder if perhaps the song was inspired by some personal incident. Could this be what Jon means when he says he can relate with Dracula and the whole "being betrayed by the Church" thing? | |

| The song is very brilliant... and it just isn't about Spawn. It could relate to a lot of people... like some of you and myself. How you do things for love and betray God for the loss of it... yet you don't regret it... because the love was true... 1 | |

| Jon had his days of going to Lutheran school in his mind when he wrote this song. He said that he believes no one left that school in a good state of mind. Funny, because when he wrote this song, the whole scandal of pedophiles in the church started to arise. | |

| Another song about Spawn. See my comment under "I Died for You" The time is close now, the end is near My walk through the valley, trails of fear I feel empty, my penance overdue, I guess it's too late now to be with you I'm extremely frightened of what will surely be I sold myself, the death of me I know you can't forgive me I know I'm on my own, I've betrayed you I walk alone About Spawn, who betrayed God to see his love, Wanda. He wants to go back. He doesn't want to be a Hellspawn. But he betrayed him, so he walks alone. What exactly is the meaning of this Just pawns in your twisted game Severe pain for the lie I'm livin' For a love I never could betray Spawn is angry at God for allowing this to happen, how God seems no better than the Devil Question me not say the lord unto thee You have chosen your own fate and your own destiny Denied of this life is what you are to be You have chosen your own fate and your own destiny Fairly self explanatory. Al simmons (Spawn) Made his own choices, and has to live through them. I did what I thought was right All for the love of my life I know it's sad but true Something is very wrong Condemned to suffer so long For a love so true He feels cheated at having to suffer so terribly for a love so true, but he feels he did the right thing, betraying God for his one true love. Would you? True love is all he really has left in this cruel, hate filled world. Is it worth betraying the light? Is true love that powerful an emotion? See below. The question that lies within Is so hard to understand It still tears at me And in my dying breath My heart holds no regrets I wouldn't change a thing Not exactly sure what to make of the beginning of this verse. But the end, even though most of these don't need explaining, i'm just giving it from Spawn's point. He doesn't regret betraying god, or selling his soul to see his true love, because it was worth it to him. My spirit begins to rise into the heavenly skies Just to be shunned away by you Now all I want is to die, no streets of gold in the sky And I wash my hands of you His soul finally released(i cannot be sure, i haven't gotten this far in the story) he begins to rise to heaven, only to be denied by God. He doesn't want a paradise, he doesn't want heaven, he just wants it to end for him. And he "washes his hands". See, in this story, Malbolgia(the devil) and god are very similiar in tactics, heaven claiming to be "Light", but resorting to the same measures as hell. Rising to the heavens light Just to plea for death Just to be denied- *sighs* Such a sad story. Well, i've had my time here. That probably didn't help you much, but hey, every little bit counts, huh? | |
