this song was written for the soldiers of USA. it was inspired by the people in Shaffer's and Barlow's family. It wasn't inspired by the patriot. it was inspired by the people in the bands family that severd (or is still serving) the armed forces.

Is Iced Earth Satanic? Even if they are, they're one of my favorite bands, but nonetheless, they are tough guys to figure out. Maybe no one ever will, but still.

If you listen to the interview with Jon on the second disc of Horrow Show you will plainly hear him mention how moved he and Matt were by the movie and how it inspired this song. I never said that this was the ONLY inspiration they recieved.

I think you're right, Arm. I may not have the Glorious Burden album, but I know that one is all about American Wars, especially the Revolutionary. This song would fit in much better there than with the horror-inspired material on the rest of Horror Show. But it's still a great song, regardless of what album it's on. You are only as free as you let yourself be. Yes there is always an authority looming over you, but they are making sure that you don't infringe on other people's freedoms by your actions. Freedom is supposed to be for everyone, so if one person gets to do whatever they want while everyone else has to clean up his mess, then that isn't very fun is it? We are free, you just have to understand that being 'free' does not mean 'i can do whatever the fuck i want'. There is a level of responsibility that goes with it, and you have to accept it. And I don't know exactly what the personal beliefs of the band are, but just look at the song "Disciples of the Lie". It explains quite clearly how certain corrupt churchmen (I think Baptist?) destroyed Jon's faith in organized religion. I don't know what Jon puts his faith in now, but it isn't the Christian God.
