In Flames never writes directly... So I would wonder if they realy had racist intentions by saying: "black and white, there is no room for two" ANd btw, though I'm not an old fan, I really adore this album, it has a new, but not pop-like sound. And I'm glad that you 'real' fans agree with me that it's not racist. I would wonder, because racism is only for the weak... and that would tear my sympathy for IF down.

This isn't a racial song. Read Velvet Tears' entry for the real meaning. 1 2 Next

how could in flames be racists if anders dreaded his hair...a nazist sure would say "dreadlocks? thats not-white!" also, the base guitar, bjorn gelotte isntt someone neonazist would consider pure, I think so they're deffinately not racists

I don't believe it personaly, but the third or fourth time I listened to it I got that idea myself. Long before I came here. ...and then I began to worry. They're all white guys, and in the pictures I saw on the website they all wore pure white... Hmm... BUT I never serisouly thought it. And besides, look at the Trigger EP: would a racist cover "Land of Confusion"?! Doubtful. :P However, maybe they did write it from a racist's point of view... I'm suprised no-one's thought of that yet. It's not all that uncommon when songwriters do that, that is personify that which they dissagree with. I can't really think of any examples, unless you count NIN's "Mr. Self Destruct", which *kinda* works... But I'm sure you get the idea nonetheless.

Hmmz, I don't think it has anything to do with racism either... I think it's about love :P I am one with the world tonight. I am proud to be this far from you. - He's one with the world because his mind is clear and he has the strenght not to seak the attention of this other person You say that you have no regrets, but I know that you do. - He knows that he's the best for the other person and believes that the other person "knows" it too You told me someone stole the eye. I know him too. - A new love ussually starts by eye contact and I think he knows this other guy who stole the eye before stealing the heart I’ve come to the conclusion - yes, I know. That between black and white, there is no room for two. - "black & white" are opposites; so it's about two persons who do't go together very well. I think it's him and the new love The scale might be wide, but there is no need to be blind. - There are a lot of actions that can be taken from this point, but he wants the other one to accept the truth because he believes the other person should know what she wants I leave all of the grey behind. I see clear, I know that I’ll find. - “grey” indicates doubts, so he’s saying he’s gonna leave all uncertainty behind and that now he sees clear he will get what he wants You claim that you are innocent, but tell me who ain't. - Everyone is responsible for their own deeds so you don't have to say "you're sorry" because you did what you wanted to do You think that you’re going to be saved. There’s no such thing as a saint. - This other person isn't better, he won't "save you" (Black and white! Nothing in between Black and white! Nothing is what it seems) - He says that the other guy is completely different than he is and that other guy won’t be a nice person in the end when he shows his true self Well... this is what I make of it, a bit refering to RAC_Hannibal :$

This song is like an allegory. "I am one with the world tonight. I am proud to be this far from you...." Could mean that he is on one of the two sides and is proud that he is far from the other. "...I?ve come to the conclusion - yes, I know. That between black and white, there is no room for two. The scale might be wide, but there is no need to be blind. Cause between black and white, there is no room for two..." Theres no room between the both worlds to have both, Your either evil or good, One side or the other. "...I leave all of the grey behind. I see clear, I know that I?ll find..." Mixing black and white produces grey. So he stops mixing the two and chooses a side

In Flames aren't racists in the slightest, if you've even listened to the song Reroute To Remain, you'd understand that, and about the song, i think it's like alot of great songs, very open to interpretation, i think its about differences as much as it is unity

as far as i know in flames never made a racist song.. and i don't got the feeling that this is one. but i am thinking about 1 thing if it was a dissicion to choose between black and white it's rather sstrange beceause of the pauses in the song and the word THAT I’ve come to the conclusion - yes, I know. "THAT: between black and white there is no room for two" if is was I’ve come to the conclusion - yes, I know. BETWEEN black and white there is no room for two" it was to choose a side but beceause of the that its not.. it is that there cant be 2 things in de middle of black and white wich is correct cause gray is only 1 colour and HE want to leave that colour "I am proud to be this far from you." he is proud he left the gray side cause he sees clear "I leave all of the grey behind." "I see clear, I know that I’ll find." i think its about the gray spot between black and white so dwelling between and not knowing your side and he sings that he foud it and leaves the other that was with him (his partner, love or whatever) in the grey so that there is only 1 left in the gray: cause there is no room for 2.. it drowns him probably when he is with the other it doesn't work.

I never once even thought that this song was racist. The reason I never thought this was because In Flames has never written a racial song. The album is titled, "Reroute To Remain" for a reason... they're about uniting the world rather than tearing it apart. Most of their songs are about bettering society, not dividing it. Nevertheless, the above statements are plausable interpretations of the song, more valid than my own interpretation, but I just don't feel they are true to the artist's intentions. I suggest that the song is about the opposite opinions of two people in a bad relationship... although like I just said, the previous interpretations are stronger than mine.

I think it is a relationship, where he is stating that there cannot be a relationship because of strong opposing views each one has, black and white. also, grey, is like the compromising between the views, trying to make it work. But between black and white, through the compromises, it isnt going to work out. He is proud to be this far from her, and Im assuming he is "black". And then he wraps it up saying there is no room for two, bc he would rather stay the color than to be living a lie in grey. ok, strechting maybe, but gimme credit, its 3 o clock in the morning, and i cant think straight
