This world (reality) sux. Yay for the first verse. Likely the new world that the author escapes into is created by drugs. I'm surprised that no one has posted that already. The drugs affect certain cells, glands, neurotransmitters. Joy indicates euphoria, the rest seems to be about a drug that induces hallucinations. Must be a good trip. Can't ignore that it's his chosen method of suicide. Overdosing--this "food for the gods" can also kill ("dead men's banquet"). Eat up and leave reality forever. I might be biased :P I'm bipolar nos, I have had no true hypomania episodes (they don't last for the minimum length of time specified by the DSM), instead it's mostly major depression with dysthymia in between with occasional bouts of extremely agitated anxiety not lasting even 24 hours. I was obsessed about the suffering in this world. When I wasn't emotionally detached and apathetic, my empathy went to the homeless of all species, the harsh existence of wildlife, those abused by their own families in our society, the ones tormented by painful disease, inhabitants of war-torn areas, victims of institutionalized torture such as factory farming and slaughterhouses, etc. I also viewed myself as deeply flawed, and felt constant guilt about being alive in comfortable surroundings and not doing enough to alleviate the misery of the less fortunate. There were times when I wasn't quite completely anhedonic but pleasures didn't seem to matter, I had no interest in them. At my most dysphoric I found solace in hydrocodone. Sometime last year I found that dextromethorphan altered my thinking in ways that felt profound, had many interesting effects (including mild visual hallucinations and close eye visuals), and even let me feel love for others beyond the seconds-long bursts of affection that were all I had for a few years. I looked forward to getting high off dxm; for once I had an activity that had an impact on me, something I enthusiastically planned for the future. Now that I self-medicate daily with tramadol, I'm a lot more stable for the duration I'm under its effects, and I only use dxm when tramadol doesn't work well (NMDA antagonists are great for reversing opioid tolerance). There are a lot of things I might like to try someday, including salvia, DMT, and shrooms. Dxm doesn't give nearly as much of a total trip as those from what I hear. And when I die, I'd like to do so happy as can be and lost in a wonderful new world from opiates and cocaine.

lol well im pretty sure its a just another IF song about astral projection, astral feet running? Your un-happy so you do whats makes you happy, and that is letting your spirit leave your body to different dimmensions thru astral projection, Look up astral projection. fits this song and behind space 1

The first verse is quite obviously about wanting to die and loosing the will to live. The "Escape takes lead" verse describe an alternative dimension/world/similar. The second verse is pretty straightforward, but it's function is to tie the first and the escape verses together. The third verse can be understood as suicide, or as entering the otherworld. The general theme of this song is the afterlife, and discontent with the present life.

I agree, this song should get so much freakin' attention, it has an awesome beat, and everything going for it. Why are songs like this overlooked with so few comments when there's songs which sound the same as the next piece of emo racking up hundreds? this is stupid.

alrite so ive been talkin with a couple of friends of mine about the whole whoracle album, and honestly i think you people got it wrong.....or maybe i did cuz we did talk about this for hours drunk off our asses. but in the end, i got to the conclusion that: 1) food for the gods is an amazing song 2) its part of the whoracle album, meaning it has to be part of the whole story that the album talks about, which is the history of mankind. Jotun starts by talking about a dream, so its not really the beginning. its a hint of the end. food for the gods is the real beginning. /Shame marries the guilt introduces itself to the concept of total loneliness/ *this talks about how man was once lonely. the rest of the verse could be talking about suicide, but lets just pretend that it has to relate to the history of man. it could be interpreted to say that the loneliness is something so painful it could drive man to suicide. /Escape takes lead into a world unknown uncontrolled by all where borders are erased and potential infinite/ *this means that there is another world that people of this world have no control over..and we cannot begin to define and thus understand its borders and limits so to us it would seem infinite. /Chosen cells, glands and transmittors blast the body with joy Astral feet running up to dimensions covered with gold stairs of glowing electroplasma safir onyx and buzzing vibrations A dead menīs banquet food for the gods/ *this shows the belief that the next life has everything blissful to us in this one, and the only way to attain it is to 'feed the gods' (believing in them) /Thereīs only 1 real world our earth is but a shadow Created from a childīs heart, a living jewel from now on abode for a soul in its setting/ *so now that man believes that this life means nothing and its the next one that counts, its compared to but a shadow of wat is to come. also, its the kind of thing only children could truly believe without doubt because they do not have the knowlege needed to question this belief....the bible talks about this very same concept but thats waaay too much info /Cutting the bloodline re-tie the bleeding roots to heavenly ship of glass and let it drift in passive arrogance in a one-word dialogue with the stars/ *blood sacrifice. not as in-depth as the rest but its all that i could think of. heavenly ship of glass - either cutting oneself with glass or to fill a glass with ones blood, and this is all apparently normal in the name of the gods because of the last lines - basically not caring about something as precious as blood because of out preoccupation with the stas(heavens-gods-faith-blinding)

jesper wrote a handfull of lyrics in tjr only....he wrote artifacts of hte black rain and moonshield...the rest of the lyrics in tjr and whoracle were mainly written by niklas sundin based off themes made by anders and jesper, some were writeen by anders and translated by sundin. Colony was completely written by anders in swedish and translated to english by niklas sundin with a few changes to make them sound right, but stay the same....clayman up until now has all been written in english by anders

I think it's about someone who is depressed to the point where nothing matters to them, but they find an escape through drug use. "Escape takes lead into a world unknown uncontrolled by all where borders are erased and potential infinite Chosen cells, glands and transmittors blast the body with joy Astral feet running up to dimensions covered with gold stairs of glowing electroplasma safir onyx and buzzing vibrations A dead menīs banquet food for the gods" Sounds like someone tripping out to me! ;P

If I had a gun to my head and was forced to choose I may very well pick this as my all time favorite In Flames song. The lyrics illicit emotion and imagery so well. I have no theory as to what the song is supposed to mean, though, but I do like to think about it.

This whole album is connected to the meaning of jotun through to episode 666, it's all like a big story if you look at them all together. +I thought jesper stromblad written all lyrics up until colony?

this song is hard to tell what it's saying even though this album has some easy ones on it.... it's probably apocalyptical, knowing Niklas Sundin (lyricalist for this album)...to me it seems to be some sort of a sci fi adventure thing...which is cool
