I realize your comment is over a year old, but you're probably still retarded, so here goes: IT'S A METAPHOR, YOU MORON. THE DICE=/=GAMBLING. GGTHXNORE.

Do not slander the "soft shit," for it is called evolution. If musicians never gained skill and composed the same shit year after year then they would be called AC/DC. If you understood half of what their lyrics were about you'd know that they are meaning to become better people and trying to push for a better society. So then why cannot they change by adding melody to their vocals? What did you enjoy most about In Flames before, the melodic riffs or the poetry screamed? Or perhaps it was the combination of both which made them unique. It doesn't even matter, cause at every moment everything is changing in every way, and if you cannot see and accept that then you're in for a life of misery. Do you often wonder why your girlfriend turned into a bitch? Do you suppose she wonders why you became an ass? And how about that new spice on the Wendy's chickenburger... what the fuck were they thinking?

"The thoughts from yesterday - forgotten. I like the way this new skin feels Bring me splinters of tomorrow Collect the parts where I win " I think he is talking about a new life (new skin), a life where he actually succeeds in something (Collect the parts where i win) "Against the grain Against the odds I’ll rise and I won’t trip again The dawn of a new day Never looked as good as this " I think he is talking about his hopes that people will trust in him, though it is really tough for him to do all the new things he has to (against the grain, against the odds) And talking about how he wont make his own mistakes again ( I`ll rise and i wont trip again) Concrete breath and dust filled tears A one-way ride to inner peace I never thought I’d join the others Those who use the dice to solve I think he is talking about finally having found something to believe in, and finally finding inner peace. Against the grain Against the odds I’ll rise and I won’t trip again The dawn of a new day Never looked as good as this I think he is talking about how his life finally looks good, and how he is finally to a certain extent happy.

Oh man! no way that Maggot just said in flames sucks cause they got a soft song. Soft Rock is the BEST way to display all iof a bands potential and skill. Anyone can bang really loud on a drum set and sing really loud, but it takes skill to play with a full, decent, beautiful sound such as what is displayed in this song.

About growing old "The thoughts from yesterday - forgotten. I like the way this new skin feels" and preparing for the good of the future "Bring me splinters of tomorrow Collect the parts where I win" and not letting the little bads worry you/prevent you from possible path ways in life. The chorus sort of backs this Idea up... "Against the grain. Against the odds. I’ll rise and I won’t trip again" whatever bads have happened and look likely to happen doesn't matter 'co this new found self-confidence is too strong.. "The dawn of a new day. Never looked as good as this" pretty self explanatory... "Concrete breath and dust filled tears" okay this is a bit strange... But dust filled makes me think that it has been awhile since he was upset and hat these tears are of release (tears of joy?). "A one-way ride to inner peace" he has found peace within himself and as with most of this song is showing content with his life... "I never thought I’d join the others. Those who use the dice to solve" This (imo) is NOT to do with gambling but taking on challenges and risks within life... Many people don't take a risk in fear of the worse, but Anders has taken it and it has paid off... As the repetition of the chorus seamlessly drums in. :) Yeah.. Overall This song is about life, the future, growing old, etc… And how we should take the chance we have for the good they could bring instead of not for the bad… Then having a million “what ifs” over our heads. Shit if only I’d take heed.
