First off i just want to say that NONE of the tabs i've seen online for this song are
and this one
isn't going to be either. This song is played in Eb, not standard tuning. (Check time
4:06 to 4:08) But
since all the other tabs claim it's in standard tuning, this is the way i learned it. In
is one of my
favorite bands, and this is one of their best songs. This tab won't be perfect, but i'll
my best to do
the song justice.

i'm not positive about this Guitar 2 part, but this does make sense because these two notes are the same
pitch as the open e and B strings of a guitar tuned to Eb.
For the first 2/3 of the intro, there's an alternating synthy kind of tone... you could
it with the
right effect and some controlled volume swells. If you want to try it, here're the notes:

Just one more thing to note before i continue to the next section. Look at the end of
second measure and
beginning of the third measure. If you had two guitars play exactly what i tabbed you'd notice that both
guitars pause briefly in between those beats, when in fact you hear steady, continuous
at the same
point in the studio recording. i can't be sure, but it may be that Guitar 2 in the intro
actually playing
something closer to Guitar 1's part at time index 0:48 - 0:57. i was going to add that
the end of the tab,
but i've run out of patience.

| I think here the Sun represents hope, fulfillment. The moon represents boredom, misery, death. So the "Moonshield" could be the sun itself, or more liberally it could be hope. "Naked and dying under worlds of silent stone reaching for the moonshield that once upon us shone" Worlds of silent stone = the moon So since the Moonshield "shone", does that make it the Sun? Just a thought. | |

| i was comparing some of my own lyrics, just now, with these, because i was clearly very influenced by this song, instrumentally and lyrically, in the writing of the lyrics, and i asked my friend, "know, these lyrics sound suspiciously like those of moonshield," and he was like "yeah, they're both about sacrificing the material world for informal knowledge" so there's a thought, though i still think either the_moonshield, or Ddadutta is right | |

| i think this song is so great. I think it's talking about the Moon (sad, lunar) being jealous of the Sun in all it's greatness. The chorus basically sums this up: 'And how I lust for the dance and the fire deep of the nectarine sunset to drink spill me the wind and its fire to steal of the colours - I´m the moonshield' I think the metaphor can be seen as something similar to Ddadutta's interpretation, although I believe most lyrics are intended to have themes which are like bricks for the listener subject to them to build on, even if they were written about something specific. Obviously the theme of this song is misery and longing for something benevolent and great (their 'Sun'). This is my first post. I hope it changes the way someone thinks about the song or at least provides some sort of deep insight or whatever. | |

| Bisuki! thank you SO much for pointing that out. it annoys me ALOT when people miscredit lyrics. and fyi Niklas Sundin is the best lyricalist. Whoracle- best lyrics. Jesper wrote everything for this song too. i like it quite alot. i can't say it's up there with 666 and Jotun, and stuff, though. as for the lyrics, it seems basically to just be depression | |

| Haha. I think this is a great song, though I won't say it's one of my best, because it's hard to chose a best In Flames song. But it's very good. I wish I could understand the metaphor here, but it's eluded me. I like the references to his martyrdom, but the rest of it is kinda... confusing. | |

| This song is truly amazing. However, upon listening to it, one will find that it's a bit hard to hear them.. as if the background instruments and music is almost too powerful. Nonetheless, the lyrics top it off, making it one of my favorite songs by In Flames. Pity that not many people have commented - the lyrics are so beautiful and expressive.. I adore how they use personification to explain the torment of whoever the song is aimed towards ["Shattered hope became my guide / And grief and pain my friends."] Extremely deep, it shows a despair that has lasted for many years, and a yearning to be set free of this agony and suffering. I could go into more detail, but I'll let others take a stab at it.. see what they think. ~kat | |
