Ok, from my "version 1" I have progressed to have worked out the whole of this
song, sounds all good to me, well it should do, I was the one that bloody worked
it out, but yeah, the distortion starts up after the intro, and it's played in
standard tuning. that's about all you need to know for it, enjoy.

| Ok. In this song, the singer is really mad at his girl. And he's been holding in his anger for far too long, and he is getting anxious to let it out. But he doesn't know if he should wait for the lobby, or just chew her out in front of the crowd. I wouldn't have understood this, but the other day I chewed my woman out in front of a small group (not quite 26 people, but a few). It is kinda embarrassing to 'expose every inch' in front of other people, but I just couldn't ignore my rage any longer. She hates me now though! :'( | |

| haha, me either.... but i think the song is about him having to tell someone (the non-stranger) something really important, and the other people in the elevator are going to have to deal with it, cuz he really needs to say whatever it is | |

| I agree with you, Angel. I started reading the first few comments on this song and was puzzled, wondering if I was the only one who thought he was aching to tell her his feelings just *right then* -- like when people spontaneously ask the love of their life to marry them. Just a random swelling of emotion in his heart for the only non-stranger beside him. | |

| I don't know, I kind of interpreted it as more of a situation where he's with a person he wants to be with, but isn't. I mean, the elevator itself could be metaphorical to life in general, like he's feeling crowded, but there is this one person (the non-stranger, if you will) that he wants to share the million words and phrases with. Sounds almost like he's been wanting to confront her with his feelings for her, but didn't want to due to whatever reason (other persons interferences, whatever reasons people have), and he's contemplating just getting it out in front of everyone in the open. Everyone has had that moment where as soon as everyone knows your secret, you feel better (albeit, sometimes, exposed a bit). | |

| Alright..the story behind this song is that it was originally planned for Make Yourself, but for some reason, production and managment issues, and maybe album space they cut it..which is a terrible mistake, this is by far one of the best incubus songs and more people should know about it - but unfortunatley many don't..just figured I'd give everyone a little history about the song :) | |

| agreed. The being in a crowded elevator is a great metaphor for being stuck, and uneasy, when there's so much he wants/needs to say and do. Especially because she's right there, which so true of real life. p.s. ScrewOnHead, did you take the lyrics literally? | |
