i would have to say that i didn't hear any strings or acoustic guitars in Summer Romance.....there was a saxophone and some porno guitar riffs as opposed to the metal sounding stuff.....thats why it sounded different. i love the song though. however, i just have to say that this is all pointless, because this is all matters of opinion and it's obvious nobody is gonna change, certainly not incubus, just because of what WE think. so anyways......this song (and entire album) kicks ass. i listen to SCIENCE when i'm pumped up and Morning View when i'm just chillin. thats just me though.

this song basically means to be yourself, to define yourself. dont give in to others when they try to make you something you are not.

"...on 'I Wish You Were Here,' 'Just a Phase,' '11 a.m.,' and 'Mexico,' they show an uncharacteristic willingness to tread softly, using acoustic guitars and touches of strings to make less noise, but more impact. Some could call it selling out, but it sounds more like growing up." -Robert Barrow, Amazon.com

S.C.I.E.N.C.E ROCKed it was the best, i dont think they really "sold out" but they had talent and some asshole producer people changed alot of their shit and tell them what to do for money for the producer's and shit and there kinda stuck going along cuz there on a contract or somthing, but still they make good music and of course over time and years the sound will change, as for the song i love it i like the words used i love the meaning its one of my favs. 1 2 Next

I agree with this guy but.. I think what brandon is trying to say is" I'm sick of painting in black and white." the world is dull. "So sick of limiting myself to your definition." Be yourself.. basically like Make Yourself

i think all of us have completely valid arguments here, and what it all boils down to is personal opinion. and i respect your opinions. so, let us just listen to and enjoy this song, because us complaining about how incubus has changed or not is not going to change anything they do. have a nice day!

Jimbobjoe.... yah their style changed. But trace it all the way through Fungus Among Us and Enjoy Incubus up to Morning View... they kept changing. It's called evolving. Maybe, just maybe, where they were when they made Make Yourself just happened to match up with pop culture. Fear not though, things will change and soon Incubus will go out again. Who says a band has to be hated by the masses to be good or to not be sellouts???

Heh, it's pretty ironic that they would choose to write a song about not being what other people want them to be. Considering that after they came out with this brilliant album and immediately cashed in their talent by changing their style conforming to that whiny college boy "rock" that record companies are tyring so hard to promote these days.
