this song is amazing, beautiful, raw and truthful. it seems that brandon is talking about how most of the world is milling around, afraid to be different, afraid to raise their voices, and afraid to reform their own beleifs and societies. He speaks to those of us who are like him: who are people who go against the grain and challenge those who hold us down and who think that being different is some sort of a bad thing. we are vitamins because the rest of the world needs revolutionary people like us to promote change and difference, but they dont really like it, and the dont handle it easily. kind of like vitamins. they suck, but you need them to be healthy.

this is definatly one of, if not my favorite songs of all time, how does incubus rock so much? its crazy!! This song is definatly about revolution, how we need to pry open our closed eye and change the world. people hate change, but they know that it has to come, and so "on the surface you hate, but u know you need me" this song is just, crazy, i use this to get out of bed sometimes.. lol

I don't know...I love all the Incubus songs. That's half the fun listening to them, not knowing what instruments they're gonna always use, how the sound and voices change so drastically. Like, you've got this song, then you've got this happy upbeat "Are you In" on Morning View. Then u've also got their "rap" and jazz collaborations. They just can do practically anything and sound good. My fav. part is You stare at me like I'm a vitamin. On the surface you hate, but you know you need me. I'll come dressed as any pill you deem fit. Whatever helps you swallow truth all the more easily.

People are too content living dreary lives. They don't even notice that their lives suck anymore. They're not willing to put forth the effort to change it. To paraphrase azwethinkweiz, it takes a few revolutionaries that no one wants to listen to to open everyone's eyes. Ah, Incubus was so great back when they were young and idealistic and smoked too much pot. They still are great...

Boyd's lyrics are phenominally unique in my opinion. His individuality and personal way of thinking shines through in all his songs. Azwethinkweiz took the thoughts from my head when describing this song and what it means. The first few lines of this song are probably my favorite Incubus lyrics, so powerful and true.
