| perfectly flawed26 and me are on the same page. The song reminds me of Bella from Twilight and New Moon. Especially in New Moon when Bella jumps off of a cliff and nearly sinks. | |

| I think this song is about a girl who is very naive and does not know much about life. Everytime I hear this song I picture a pretty young girl, I just dont know why. | |

| If Bella represents women, then this song could be about the struggle of women and their degradation in the media? | |

| The correct lyrics are: Earth to Bella, you think you've got it all figured in. Earth to Bella, everything you know is wrong. Well, almost. Earth to Bella, I've seen when you are not listening. I bear the burden of being the voice that lets you know we all grow old, and before you swim you gotta be ok to sink. Earth to Bella, the world can be an unfriendly place. So hold your head up and do your best to save some face. It's not that hard... just undo yourself and see a second sun ascend. I'm ok to sink. Ok to sink. I'm ok to sink. Ok to sink. Those are straight out of the booklet so there ya go. I love the song can't get enough of that climax. Learned to play it to, easy to play on guitar. Later. | |

| first of all im pretty sure its "before you swim youve got to be okay to sink" and "bella" means beautiful in italian. hence the italian-bistro-style accordian at the beginning. so basically hes telling this chick shes beautiful but verrry shallow and she needs to grow up and realize her mistakes. | |

| I think this song is saying that in order to really live u have to be able to take chances, and accept that fact that you will fail at things. "And before you swim You've got to be okay to sink..." before you live u have to be ok to fail | |

| These are the correct lyrics.. and the following is a transript from their recent podcast where they "explain" each song on light grenades. Mike: This is part one of a two part diddy called "Earth to Bella," and its a song that.. Brandon kind of wrote the entire song. Actually I didnt have much to do with it at all... well the first part at least. The second part I did. Brandon: Yeah I gotta learn how to play the second part. Earth to Bella is kinda.. one and two, are in my opinion us playin with the idea of ascention and descention. Part one being the ascending part where all the lyrics and all of the imagery in the song and musicality is reaching skyward and trying to move up up up up up and exploding up and out... And then part two moves into the idea of decention where everytihin is moving downward and spiraling downward and sinking into the sea... so whatever that means to you. | |

| Bella in Italian means beautiful, in many parts of this song it sounds like he talking to a beuatiful but shallow girl. | |

| This is a caution to those taking risks...any risk... "And before you swim You've got to be okay to sink..." whatever your doing accept the consequences...since this is towards a "bella" i would assume that this is relationship-wise. If your going to get into something with someone, be ready to take some criticism...thats the way it is | |

| b you: I do believe you're correct about the water thing. A sort of "wake up" to humanity-or a singular person. Sort of..let things go where they go, let it all crash down, an overwhelming feeling. Or, yeah, the purity thing. Forgive yourself and let the regret wash away. | |

| I think that this song is about someone (Brandon, maybe), having to tell "Bella" about life. Brandon is telling Bella that she's on the wrong track in life. She thinks she knows everything and that she is invincible. "And before you swim, you've gotta be okay to sink." He's teaching her that if she wants to reach her goals, she will have to accept that there will be things and people in her way trying to bring her down. He's also saying that if she tries, she has to be prepared to be disappointed. "The world can be an unfriendly place So hold your head up.." He's also teaching her that not everyone has good intentions, and don't be naive and get tricked easily. I hope I gave other people some ideas with my interpretations. =] | |
