To the best of my knowledge... This song was written by Justin (lead) about his nephew. Justin sees himself as "The Captain." I believe this is how he put it at a concert in Baton Rouge.

I first listened to Ingram Hill on lyrics.com actually and I liked them immediately. The Captain is a really calming song. I'm not quite sure who the captain is exactly, maybe God?

Yes ma'am, that's correct. Justin's nephew was ill and had to stay in the hospital overnight a couple years ago. Out of what I'm sure was that stressful time came "The Captain"...which is probably my favorite song ever. 1
