| I think this song is a relationship gone sour. She was getting bored, and he tried to make it better but she would have none of it. I think they come to the agreement that they should go on a "break", but is saying that she is still welcome to see him, and begin going out again if she changes her attitude. But he doesn't realize that in their time away, they grow even farther apart. And in the song he is realizing that it is over between them. | |

| I think the song is about a messy breakup. I think the title itself is probably a double-entedre meaning 'Public Display of Affection' as well as something else (maybe 'Please Don't Abandon' or something along those lines). The chorus I think is about trying to escape the emptiness and pain caused by the loss of that person in your life by crying yourself to sleep and dreaming of better times gone past... | |
