| This song has to be one of my favourites on Antics. I love the line, "I promise to commit no acts of violence. Either physical or otherwise" My interpretation of this song is that he's deceiving the girl that he's with. "I'm subtle like a lion's cage. Such a cautious display" Like she sees him as maybe being protective or something, (a lion's cage), but then again, there is a lion inside that could attack... I don't know though, I could be entirely wrong... | |

| What I think it's the meaning of the song with the corrected Lyrics: I'll lay down my glasses, I'll lay down in houses, if things come alive. I'll subtract pain by ounces, Yeah, I will start painting houses, if things come alive I promise to commit no acts of violence, Be it physical or otherwise, If things come alive ~*~*~ I think that he'll correct his ways if this ways if "things come alive" between the two of them.. ~*~*~ I'll say it now I'll say it now I'll say it now Oh, I'll say it now Cuz I want it now ~*~*~ He'll say what he feels for the girl, becuase he wants to be with her ~*~*~ When personality is scarred tissue, We travel South with disuse ~*~*~ When you've been hurt a lot, and f*cked with girls a lot(be it sex or messing with them), you are used to go "South" like it's nothing, and he's warning her about that ~*~*~ I'm subtle like a lion's cage Such a cautious display ~*~*~ Pretty obvious, he's like a lion's cage, he can do damage without warning, so it's force to be reckon with.. I think he means he can be pretty cold about hurting ~*~*~ Remember take hold of your time here Give some meanings to the means To your end. Not even jail. ~*~*~ He's telling the girl to take all the time she wants to think about it, also, she can "give meanings to the means to her end", so, he knows she'll be always right, and doesn't care where he could end, not even jail ~*~*~ We marshal in the days of longing, We tremble like anyone's children, And wink towards the fire. ~*~*~ He knows that, perhaps, this is just pointless and he' afraid(he doesn't know what to do), it doesn't matter if it's going to hurt, he's willing to risk everything. ~*~*~ I'm erring on the side of caution, Betraying no other symptom, But girl, you shake it right. ~*~*~ He knows that he could be doing everything wrong, so he's cautious on what he does. He's afraid but he hides it. But, she shakes it right(Do I need to explain myself?). ~*~*~ I will bounce you on the lap of silence, We will free up to the beats of science, And girl, you shake it right ~*~*~ By now he lost it. He's f*cking her brains out, and she's good at it ~*~*~ I'll say it now Oh, but hold it still, darling, your hair so pretty Can't you feel the warmth of my sincerity? ~*~*~ He tells her to hold stop it all, he isn't doing it just for sex, he's in love ~*~*~ You make motion when you cry You're making people's lives feel less private. Don't take time away You make motion when you cry ~*~*~ By now, she's angry at him. Perhaps because she feels used? "You make motion when you cry" Perhaps he's talking about motion in music(Search for it). In other words, she makes a lot of freaking noise when crying, and well... atracting everyone's attentions(You know girls, they make things bigger then they should) ~*~*~ we all hold hands, can't we all hold hands, When we make new plans? ~*~*~ If they break up, he wants to still be friends, he cares a lot about her and she wants to be near her, maybe he found out she's so beautiful(not physically) and he doesn't even care if he can only be her friend, he cares too much about her, he loves her ~*~*~ I pretend like no one else To try to control myself. I'm subtle like a lion's cage. Such a cautious display. Remember take hold of your time here, Give some meanings to the means To your end Not even jail Perhaps, in the whole song, he's talking about a freaking player who fell in love with a girl who's... not the kind he always shakes it with... and maybe she's a Virgin. From what I understand, he talks about her like a pure girl. | |

| I interpret "I'll subtract pain by ounces" differently. Perhaps he's falling in love with another girl, because his current wife or fiance or girlfriend or whatever isn't exactly what he thought she was. To me, the entire song is about daring this other girl to make a move on him, and basically reaffirming that he'll do whatever it takes, even commit adultery (hence "Not even jail"), to get with this other woman. "Subtract pain by ounces" refers to removing his wedding ring to forget about the other girl. | |

| I think the "If things come alive" line correlates with "Remember take hold of your time here/Give some meanings to the means/To your end"...he wants you to bring yourself to life, bring meaning to your life, and make things better. How incredibly inciteful: "When personality is scarred tissue/We travel south with disuse". When all of your personality is based upon recovering over tragedy and your outlook is grim, you go south (keep things going in the same direction as you're feeling, continue the pain) That's why I agree with "I'll subtract pain by ounces" being a drug reference...a little substance abuse to distract him from the pains and dramas in a life where people seem to not even be alive. Oh, god, I love that line "I promise to commit no acts of violence/Be it physical or otherwise"...it's the "or otherwise" that gets me. We cause much violence that is not physical and it is often undetected or unmentioned. Sometimes, we put ourselves in a jail of pain that we feel we deserve. He wants us to get out. | |

| This song sounds like it's about RAPE. Listen to the lyrics. It really does sound like it. It sounds like this girl is teasing him to the point that "NOT EVEN JAIL" is going to stop him from getting what he wants.. "I promise to commit no acts of violencts/be it physical or otherwise.. If things come alive.." "I will bounce you on the lap of silence, We will free up to the beats of science, And girl, you shake it right" "Oh but hold it still darling your is so pretty can't you feel the warm of my sincerity you make motion when you cry" "I pretend like no one else To try to control myself." "Not even JAIL" | |
