yeah, whoever posted these lyrics must be half deaf or something. how dare such an injustice be done to such a great band! yes, joy division is a huge influence on interpol. listen to their album Closer and you'll see just what i'm talking about.

dude what the hell happened to this place? I mean, I've read some ridiculous posts like "I LUV THIS SOGN!)@# WTFCHICKENBBQ" but nothing like this. Congrats, ya'll are the first. ANYWAY I'm actually going to be on topic and say this is a really sweet song. I mean, who wouldn't want a man who'd surprise you when you're down? Especially if he's Paul Banks, mmm.

I saw them in Atlanta really high. They were amazing. Then I saw them in Raleigh on acid. They were INSANELY AMAZING! I am seeing them again in St Pete in 2 weeks and hopefully I will be on acid again. Hallucinogenics are what I recommend most for Interpol. Oh, and drink and smoke while doing it for maximum insanity.

Er... I didn't know this was a Christian recruitment site. Silly me, I thought 'songmeanings.net' would be about, y'know... songs... and their meanings... maybe with a few nets thrown in... mistakenly, I see. Oh, wait. It's not me, it's you. Being a jackass. Leave religion out of it, spacewaster. 'If you do not believe in Christ atleast believe in what he does. Your alternative is hopeless, and week.' ... *sigh* Ah well. But you know what? I will say to you what I say to everyone who tells me that my life, without Jesus as it is, is meaningless: I am definately not a Christian, or indeed particularly religious at all. I think that religion is (or should be) completely internal, and that organized religion is a very dangerous thing indeed. I accept the possibility of there being a God of some kind, and I accept that there is the *possibility* that Jesus was in fact the manifestation of this God. But that is not what I believe to be true, and I don't appreciate people trying to tell me and the people around me that because I don't share their views I am 'weak', and that because I am not a Christian I am going to hell. I'm not a Christian, but I do believe that I am a good person. And if at the end of it all, that isn't good enough for your God then so be it. There isn't anything I'm willing to do to please that kind of God. I'm kind of sorry that I'm carrying on this stupid argument on this page, because it is not the appropriate place. But people like that just rile me beyond belief. So sorry, but myaaah.

How does anybody attempt to figure out what a song means that has effectively only one line, and an obtuse one at that? I mean I love this song but it could mean anything at all.

i think this song is about the point of no return, where you finally let down your walls for anotrher person. it's the idea of the 'sacirficial psyche' (william s. burroughs), which is supposed to be one of the greatest concessions we can make to one another as humans. this song is about being emotionally naked in front of another person, and shows a level of trust. it's fitting that this is the first song on the album, because i feel like nothing else that follows is possible without it. it's stark, simple and beautiful. 1 2 Next

Is a song that only makes sense while on acid that way because it was created by people on acid? Does being on acid make certain songs good, entertaining or more meaningful because of some random intersection of obscurity? Does truth actually reveal itself when we are able to confuse our normaL sense of reality? Is our normal sense of reality actually not true at all and drugs make us realize this? Do drugs as maybe music as well actually expand our consiousness thus revealing truth, although it may seem false because of our limited senses. Are there frequencies physically or mataphysically that we are unaware of? If there are such things hidden from our normal senses, is it good to try to reach them and subdue them? Is becoming more human actually becoming less human? Is it good to be human? If its good to be human? Is it harmful to look for more, or is it more a compulsion, or maybe even a duty? Is it actually bad to be human? Do we dare to consider why infact we exist if it is not good? If its not good are we infact at war? Would there be a way to fight a war with an enemy that we can not take arms? Is selfdestruction our outlet to a war against the unknown? Is selfdestruction a compulsion of being human? IF selfdestruction is our nature why do we fight against it? Is every breath we take good or bad or is all good even what is bad because it is true? Is consciousness to be sought after. Are we an enemy to nature? If we are the excrement of nature what could we possibly do to become its friend? If we are not nature's friend will there not be a price to pay? Then again are we the cream and sweetness of nature and if so why don't we run with it or do we although it appears otherwise? Do you know there is atleast a God or Gods and if not then what security do we have in our existence. If we deny there is a God then does that make one an abomination or does it bring freedom? How does God reveal itself that we are to believe that we are good and pleasing to God? Is fear of the unknown your God? If fear or imagination construes a God does that God exist or is it just a thought? If we think a God, and we think, does that infact reveal God? Do miracles reveal God's existence or just more to existence than we normally see? If God exists to you, is God perfect and Good? If God is not perfect or Good would it do good to be aware of this? Is there really such a things as evil? If you are not aware of evil or being evil should you be condemned for it? If something is evil to you and you embrace it does it matter if nobody thnks it's such? If you are condemned for evil but don't believe it to be so would it be evil to change? Is evil and what is good and bad just a matter of social interaction and a result of being witnessed by others. A tree that falls in the woods but nobody hears it does make a noise. Thus existence can BE without a witness to it. Is existence only a matter of being physical? Is being human only a matter of being physical and being able to witness it. Does the fact that we witness ourselves bring only one substantial thing... pain? Could there be pleasure without pain? is being good having compassion for those in pain? Is having pleasure evi, considering its dependence on pain? Would pure love be taking full pain for anothers pleasure? Would pure evil be taking full and or everlasting pleasure letting pain exist elsewhere. What if we can witness others pain without the ability to help? Is it not evil to not witness that pain for truths sake? What if we cover anothers pain to out senses? Can we forget about it? Can we ever be free from or consciousness of that evil? Will fake ustification take away that evil? Do we have a choice to live as a solitary being? If we do not have that choice why are we subject to being good, bad or evil? Do we have a choice at all? If we do have a choice in anything does that not make us opposed to nature, or atleast apart from it? If we never had a choice from the beginning at what point could we? If never having a choice by our unability to not exist are we not nature itself? Is pain the result of our existence beyond nature by reason of choice? Neither seems acceptable logically. Therefore doesn't it seem God or that which is in control of nature and us is the only thing to make life understandable. Witnessing ourself without choice, are we responsible for anything? are we all as humans evil by nature itself? Does pain depend on the existence of pleasure? Will our pain result then in someone elses pleasure or is it maybe stock for our own pleasure? Can we steal pleasure using someone elses pain? Does an existing God take on pain for our pleasure, whether it be now or later. Would this be the God of Love? Could we be the pain of nature existing for the God of plesure? Would this be the God of evil? Is there a cosmic food chain? We do not know truth other than what we know. What we know is biased by what we hope. We have faith that what we don't know is good for us because we exist. We have faith that what we don't know, knowing that we don't everything is good because hope and fear. What I know is not truth as well. Logic and answers seems to leave out God. Knowledge seems void of God. Logic makes conscousness more substantial. COnscousness makes pain more substantial. Faith and hope desire for less pain and sufferring. Faith and hope desire God for the truth and for peace. Love is really desire but its empty without movement. Unfullfilled love is pain. Increased love brings more strife or more pain. Fulfilled love completed turns two into one. Leaving hope eliminates strife and pain and becomes numb, consistent, and dull . Eternity without change is the same on any level. Being bipolar is the basis for love and most dynamic, yet seemingly most painful. consistensy is uniform numbing for without need, and without pain, there is no desire and love seems impossible. By definition heaven is very good and to be desired, so to the unkowing it seems to be most fullfilling. It is therefore to be desired and inturn means we lack it now. We have a need for it or realize that we will have a need for it. We move towards it then in whatever way we know how, and to the degree by how much we need or perceive a need for it. Is obtaining heaven becoming one with God? Love seems to be the result of two apart with at least one having a need for the other resulting in desire. Hope is required for movement of ones desire to the other of the two. It would seem to depend on the need of the other for something that you have to give. To obtain that desired union one would need to give. Would it not seem that God would need something from us to love us? If the need is praise, why is it a weekness of ours? If the need is adoration, would that not become stale? If the need is gory, would that not leave us disposable. Our hope is that the need God would have is companionship and closeness. This would be something that we also need unless we are securely one alone. However, we can not be securely one alone because we witness to ourselves with consiousness. Thus companionship is desired where complete love as two can become one. Experiencing complete love brings compassion from the knowledge of its splendor compared to being one. Lonliness is filled with pure love but may lack movemewnt from desire. Also wrong movement or lack of it as movement can leave love unfullfilled. Optimism can leed to loniliness through unfullfilled love with desire for oneness with another but never completed. Hope, on the otherhand is truthful and cant leave love unfullfilled, for it is open for the otherthat is desired to choose. If we desire love itself as we all do from a lack of oneness with ourselves we seek companionship. With companionship we may experience complete love, and in essence pleasure with pain becomes joy. If we experience this union of love we understand a new thing and are now aware of the ability to be not alone. Now compassion is unexcapable and we have something to give to others who infact are alone. Jesus Christ taught us this, in a better way but maybe one which has been confused by me and others. Without knowing the reward of completed love and how its compassion spreads, it can seem not worth the effort. Maybe its the hope that is lacking but Christ showed us that we should have hope. He showed us that he has hope in our love, giving us a choice. he was not optimistic, but truthful. He showed us even one union of perfection of love can grow beyond understanding. Although pain may be involved, joy and that love once complete is everlasting and giving. Giving up, living without hope is hopelesss in itself. We can look back at Christ to see how compasssion has never ceased to exist from his one act of love in dying and forgiving us displaying a love never seen and absolute. With his faith and ressurrection he again gave us hope that God the father and creator loves us as well. To love thy enemy to its fullness gives us all an opportunity to receive his love or deny it. So here is really our choice that is real. You can't deny it. With the choices we have, we can turn our back on that love or embrace it. If you do not believe in Christ atleast believe in what he does. Your alternative is hopeless, and week. I don't know the results of these choices but I there's truth in his choices or atleast truth in the choices he made that we know today. The kingdom of God is among us let us believe and accept our actions made and realize that we have choices and Christ testifies to them. We all can make a difference, I accept in the Name Jesus his love and God's will trusting in God as love and loving. The opportunity is there for us all. There can't be love without truth and justice aswell. So if you believe in love look to the law of God and the example of Christ and choose to live in the light which darkness can not extringuish. The Good news is that the light is not limited and if you have life you have light in you. Do not hide it but put it on a lamp stand for all to see.
