Home I Inxs Afterglow Chords Guitar Tab

Switch Tabs:

  1. Pretty Vegas
  2. Afterglow »
Artist: INXS
Song Name: Afterglow
Album: Switch (2005)
Tabbed in march 2006
Standard tuning
This is a great song to listen to -- even more fun to
play on the guitar. I learned most of the chords from
the INXS fanclub Podcast where JD sings it accompanied
with only an acoustic guitar, so I'm sure this is 99%
correct (it's much harder to tab from the album version
where the guitar is hidden behind the strings).
It's in the key of F# I believe. But whenever I see so
many sharpened chords, I suspect a capo was used.
If all the sharpened barre chords make your hand sore,
place a capo on the first fret, and lower each chord a
semi-tone, so C# become the easy-to-form C chord, F#
becomes F, A# becomes A, etc. That way you still
can play along with the album in key without the
trouble of the barre chords.
C# F#
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon
C#
that comes through my window
F#
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divides
C# B F#
the thorns from the roses It's you and the roses
A# G# A# F#
C# B F# C#
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
B F# C#
Heal me from all this sorrow As I let you go
B F#
I will find my way when I see your eyes
C# G# A# F# C#
Now I'm living in your afterglow
C# F#
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time,
C#
but who owns tomorrow?
C# F#
In between the longing to hold you again
C# B F#
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
A# G# A# F#
My mind drifts away, we only have today
C# B F# C#
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
C# B F#
Heal me from all this sorrow
C# B
As I let you go I will find my way
F# B F#
I will sacrifice 'til that blinding day when I see your eyes
C# G# A# F#
Now I'm LIVINNNNG!!!!! in your afterglowwwwwwwwww!!!
D# A# D# A# G#
When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go
[yodelling chords: C# G# F# C# repeated twice]
C# B F# C#
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
B F# C#
Heal me from all this sorrow As I let you go
B F#
I will find my way, I will sacrifice
C# G# A# F#
Now I'm living in your afterglow
C# F#
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divides
C#
the thorns from the roses
B F#
It's you who is closest
----------------
Hope You enjoyed it as much as I did :)
Play it to your girlfriend.. if you have one, and just wait for results :)

My interpretation of the song. “Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses It's you and the roses” He is in the “aftermath” of a relationship. He now has to separate his hurtful past(the thorns) from his bright future (the roses). He’s separating what he had with her(the thorns) and what it will be like from that point on (the roses) “Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow Heal me from all this sorrow As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes Now I'm living in your afterglow” He tries to move on with his life, but as soon as he comes around her again and lets her back into his life he gets set back to missing her and back into his past. Each time he gets rid of the thought of being with her he goes right back to loving her after seeing her. “Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow? In between the longing to hold you again I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control My mind drifts away, we only have today” He is still in love with her and wants it the way it was back when they were together, “who wants tomorrow” when tomorrow means not being with her and yesterday is being in love with her. “Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow Heal me from all this sorrow As I let you go I will find my way I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes Now I'm living in your afterglow” He still wants to make it all work out and be with her. “When the faith has gone as I let you go, as I let you go” When one day he eventually runs out of faith of them being back together he will be able to let her go. “Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses It's you who is closest” No matter how much he tries to move on, its always easier to go back to her than to try to move on with his life.

The song is about J.D's respect and admiration for Michael Hutchence and how he doesn't want to take over, he just wants to continue his legacy. Fortune has said this himself

I love this song heaps..J.D fortune (the new lead singer) is awesome..it could be about J.D following in michael hutchinsons afterglow..i think that would be a good meaning to the song. It could also be about a relationship..it really depends on what u think of it ;)....love this song i can listen to it forever!!! p.s j.d fortune is HOT lol :)p.ps- GO SOCCEROOS..GOOD LUCK IN GERMANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL..KEWELL AND CAHILL R LEGENDS.. (totally off the topic lol )

It's blissful pop that's what it is: sweet, fizzy, not much substance, yeah the words are somewhat generic, BUT... it sounds great. I think that it is about letting someone go and living with that sacrifice but in the end what keeps you from dying or being completely lost is the memories you hold on to, the afterglow. But there's a message of hope here, because he says "I will find my way when I see your eyes" and "'til the blinding day when I see your eyes" in the meantime there's a looming sadness "bathed in blue"

to me now, this song is about losing a loved one, if not from a breakup, but from a passing. a few weeks ago, a good friend of mine died at the young age of 16 and this song was played at his funeral. "touch me and i will follow, in your afterglow. heal me from all this sorrow, as i let you go" we're all mourning ryan's death, but we know that he's watching us from above, and he wants us to all stay strong. r.i.p. ryan kidson. 89-06

Afterglow was written about INXS moving on after losing Micheal and Andrew Farris writing songs without him (They where the major song writers back then)

I love it too. It has a really hypnotic rhythm too.. kinda like the way a person feels hypnotised when he/she falls in love. I love this line so much: "Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow"

J.D Fortune is a McFucking W.A.N.K.A. The least they could've done is chosen an Australian to fill Michael Hutchence's boots. If not for Fortune, they would've never gone of writing a crappy song like "Pretty Vegas" *rolls eyes*

hi everyone this is my first post here. i've heard that this song is about how the new singer (whats his name?) is feeling about filling into the shoes of the late michael hutchinson, he's apparently living in hutchinson's "Afterglow".. well thats just my opinion, its ultimately upto the listener to relate to it in her/his own special way...like Tagore said "It takes two to make music, the musician who plays the song in reality and the listener who plays the song in his head".. enjoy! this is a great song :-)

i love this song. i think its about the good times and the bad times in a relationship. "the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses", well i also feel that its about a guy who is deeply in love with this woman, "touch me and i will follow..." it comes across as something that went wrong in a relationship, mostly her fault and how the guy is still hung up on her, but is still angry with her for what she did, im supposing cheating
