As the story goes, Doug Ingle was under the influence of several substances when he wrote the music. When asked what it should be called, he slurred "In The Garden of Eden" and someone else wrote it down as they heard it. The real meaning in the song's name goes beyond that; they obviously could've changed it. Eve was supposed to be the perfect woman and lived in the most sacred place: the Garden of Eden. "In-a-gadda-da-vida" replaces "In the Garden of Eden for a reason; it's about being with the most beautiful woman without morality getting in the way of things. In short: Sex. It's one of the top 10 songs of all-time.

Ha ha this song kicks ass. Most memorable guitar and bass riffs and very memorable keyboard. I heard the band was so stoned(or drunk. Under the influence of some kinda drug) that they couldnt pronounce the lyrics or didn't know when to end the song and just kept it going. It dont matter, the song still kicks ass and is very memorable. The best part is after the long drum solo with the drums and keyboard playing.

I love this song. And not only do young guys listen to classick rock, but young girls like me do too. And I think it's In The Garden Of Eden, because when I first heard it, that's what it sounded like to me. And it just sounds better, and wasn't the Garden of Eden in the bible? I'm not exactly religious

no, it does mean eden. they wrote the song sober but sant it once while drunk. it was all slurred, thus: in-a-gadda-da-vida. after they sang it like that they liked it. now it is always sung like that
