| Amazong song and another one of Harris' incredible Anti-War songs. He describes the scenery so vividly, I can almost see everything before my eyes, liike I have been there myself. War is one of Harris favorite topics and after "Afraid to shoot strangers" this song touches me deeply. It really gives me the creeps every time I listen to it. It perfectly describes what war is like...that there are no heroes, only thousands of people dying alone and far away from home. I bow to Iron Maiden and Steve Harris for this masterpiece of music! | |

| "brilliant song...excellent voice, excellent lyrics excellent instrumental. the first and the last words are the ones which move me the most. this is totally an anti war song because it says that not even the sound of guns can hide the shame of those who started the war. another song from the "war sucks" collection :)" This isn't from the war sucks collection. IM isn't anti-war. It's just a song about a battle. Even if they are anti-war, this song certainly isn't. | |

| this song so greatly conveys how it must have felt to be at that battle, its just astounding, the guitar playing should seriously earn them a ticket to heaven, its so fuckin great!!!!! | |

| I don't think its an anti-war song, just a war song about the battle at Paschendale | |

| Listen to Aces High and the Trooper. Iron Maiden songs are about heroism of war as well as the futility. to say that they are anti or pro war ignores half of their war songs. | |

| Rorodog is correct. Also, I believe Adrian Smith was the main person in charge of writing this song. Harris actually took a back seat to this one, but he was still involved. | |
