I've made a project of 80 hours on Alexander The Great in sec5 as a secondary project, so here is what i've found: Actually, Al The G didn't conquered ancian India, he failed to keep his army togheter for the last expedition. he was in India, beated their army (King Poros one) but gave back his territories to the king and left. Also, maybe guys like Gengis khan conquered more territory (I've looked on a map and he conquered near 8 times Alexander's empire territry!) but he conquered more than the others if you look only to the territories habited and known on this time. And for the question about «is he the best», I think a lot of factors where on his side (Persian soldiers not trained, they were the only potential enemy, they were cowards) but, ME, I love his rash spirit along with the fact that he never known fear. He had a lot of respect for his enemies, and not every conquerors could say the same... just think about the spanish in south america! And plz, don,t go say that im a book smart (or whatever it was... I'M not english) I've said only what I know. And why the hell did this song never made it trought the live set list?!? me want it...

Well, obviously the song's about Alexander the Great. Brilliant song, especially seeing as it's surprsingly historically accurate. It's very difficult to right an accurate song about someone that actually existed.

One of the most amazing things about Iron Maiden is their tremendous appreciation for history and literature. By the way, about who the greatest general ever was: there isn't one. History is full of remarkable military minds. Alexander the Great was a great conquering general. Robert E. Lee was a brilliant military strategist in defense of his homeland. The point is, the greatness of generals is more connected to their objectives, their successes and even the circumstances they fought under. I would tend to think, too, that a great general is summed up by his character. Alexander the Great was a great conqueror, an impressive figure in history—but hardly a person to admire. Others, like Lee, embodied virtues that outshine even their successes on the battlefield.

alright book smart sucrose. you're the uber history buff eh?go read as many history books as you can, making sure to try and sound better than eveyone else. the book you should really be on the lookout for is "how not to be a pretentious asshole that repels human beings worse than the smell of rotting elephant anus"... for you, silence should be a virtue. dolt.

I wonder about the line: "Alexander's army line by line, They wouldn't follow him to India" I thought Alexander did indeed conquer India

Brilliant song, about that father murdering guy called Alex. How on earth did they get all that suprisingly true to its word infomation to rhyme? Its near impossible to get any infomation to rhyme. Riddle me that.

i think that it would be pointless to try to work out who was the greatest general of all time; each has a different historical context. i wrote an article on a debate i had on a forum about alexander and Hannibal, and it was hard to choose between the 2. as for the song, it is historically accurate in all but one line 'he pathed the was for christianity' i really dont think you could construct an arguments to that end. i personally thinks is a bad song, but the fact that it is historicaaly inspired heavy metal realy gives it a hint of origionality!

I love how Maiden's lyrics have historic significance. I am a history major at OU, Maiden fucking rocks I am going to Ozzfest to watch them and then leave shortly after, so I don't lose hearing because of the shit that is playing after the and Black Label.
