Song: "Face in the Sand"
Artist: Iron Maiden
Album: Dane of Death

Standard Tuning

This a great track off of the Dance of Death album.
I have not tabbed the entire song, just the main parts
to get you going. All of you experts out there can figure
out the solo's. Another track that has acoustic melody and
symphony feel to make Maiden better than ever before!

INTRO:Acoustic/Clean
--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
---------7-5\4-------4-------------------7-5\4-------4--------------
-9-7-99---------5-7-----7-5\4-5---9-7-9---------5-7-----7~----------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------7-5\4-------4--------------------------------------------------
-9-77-9---------5-7-----7--5\4-5--5-7-5--7-9-7--5\4------5-4-----5-4----
-----------------------------------------------------5~-------7-------5-
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-5-4----5-4----5-4-----5-4-----5-4------5-4----5-4----5-4-----5-4-------
-----3------5-------7-------3-------5~------7-------5------3-------5----
------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------
----------------------------
--------------------4-------
-5-4-----5-4-----5-----7~---
------7-------3-------------
----------------------------

INTRO:(Cont.)Next is the background orchestra sound with
guitars switching to distortion playing special effects
using natural harmonics. Listen to the track for timing and
appropriate frets.
-<12>--<12>---<7>---<12>-------------------------------------12------------
-<12>--<12>---<7>---<12>-------------------------------------12------------
-<12>--<12>---<7>---<12>---Ect.--5--------7--------9---------12-(Dive)-----
-<12>---------------<12>---------5-(Bar)--7-(Bar)--9-(Bar)---12------------
---------------------------------3--------5--------7-----------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the music kicks in full gear and I have tabbed the
melody that coincides with the symphony sound. It repeats
throughout the song!
---------------------------
---------------------------
---------------------------
---------7~----6~----------
--9-7-9-----9------7-9~----
---------------------------

Pre-Chorus:Here is the pre-chorus line "I wait for the sign,
they tell the truth.
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
-4---7--5--4---7--5--4---7--5--4---4--5--7---
-4---7--5--4---7--5--4---7--5--4---4--5--7---
-2---5--3--2---5--3--2---5--3--2---2--3--5---
---------------------------------------------

Chorus: "So I watch and I wait, and I pray for an answer."
-------------------------
o-----------------------o
--9--5--4--7---4--5--7---
--9--5--4--7---4--5--7---
o-7--3--2--5---2--3--5--o
-------------------------

Solo: I will leave this up to you professionals out there!

Interlude:
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
-7~--9--11/12-11--7~---7--9--11/12---7~---(X 2)-
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------

Back to the main Chorus using the same chords and ends with
natural harmonics!

Good o' Bruce, not making things obvious or easy to work out :D Is the song is about Some near-Apocolyptical war? Maybe "I wait for the signs, they tell me true I see the signs of the end" "the end never came And we're digging the graves And we're loading the guns for the kill" This seems to Be about how when you thihnk everything is going to end, It just gets worse and worse. (Check 'Fates Warning' - "Or They the lucky ones that are Taken away") This song is a toughie, It could be about the War in Iraq, It could be apocolyptic, (23:58 esque), but it has a very dark feel to it. I always seem to invisage that bit from Terminator 2(i think) With the scorched playground after the Nukes. Maybe that is "the Sand", the remains of a nuclear holocaust. Thats just how i see it anyway ;)

This song does use a double bass drum. Thats the reasonw why you will never hear it at a live concert because Nicko says it's to hard to play.

a brilliant song, one of my favorites "Everybody's waiting for something to happen Everybody's waiting for something to see Lunatics waiting for bigger disasters Everyone's waiting for news on TV" - have you noticed how as soon as something happens like 9/11, spanish bombings, london bomings, declaration of war on iraq....that people rush to the tv and need to know exactly whats going on. is it like a drug? unless it directly affects you, i think it is. "Winding lives at the end of the spiral Waiting dictators with their next big thrill Everyone's looking, but no one is listening Everybody wants to be in at the kill" -to me, this verse is saying that democracy is failing. look at the war on iraq, alot of the uk population didnt want to go to war, yet the primeminister was acting like a dictator and didnt listen. "Everyone's searching, but nothing's revealing Everyone's looking for the reason why Everyone's hoping for life everafter Everyone's looking at death from the sky " - asking why there is violence? death from the sky, common end of human theory is a meterite, maybe this is trying to say that death wont be coming from the sky where people are looking, but is under their noses, nuclear war. i think this is a song about human corruption and the death of us all.
