| Great song would I be correct in saying it about England and Thatcher ect? Great song really sums up the anti society feelings that we all get. I love the opening line. | |

| This song reminds me of being 16 and thinking what a great band The Jam were, and still are! A brilliant "angry young man" song which still holds true today. I always thought the line was, "the facts you see are the facts you get" not " what you see is what you get" but that doesn't matter the best line is, " you choose your leaders to place your trust and their lies wash you down and their promises rust!" is so true ! Whatever party is in power never keeps it's promises and always stiches the poor and working class up, big time. Mr Weller should be proud of this as one of his greatest songs. | |

| "You choose your leaders and place your trust As their lies wash you down and their promises rust You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns" Weller is a godly lyricist. | |

| this song is definitley not about sex I always thought it was about this guy who does whatever he wants and doesn't care what other people think. he's happy and doesn't need other's opinions especially when they make shit choices mainly concearning government and stuff Some people might say my life is in a rut, But I'm quite happy with what I got People might say that I should strive for more, But I'm so happy I can't see the point. Somethings happening here today A show of strength with your boy's brigade and, I'm so happy and you're so kind You want more money - of course I don't mind To buy nuclear textbooks for atomic crimes 1 | |

| So agree with the opening chords commnt. My all timie memory of this song was as a teenager walking along Carnaby Street loking for my mod gear and then hearing the opening chords pounding out so loud from a record shop. Still makes the hair stand up on my neck when I hear it now. | |

| The modfather's greatest song. I think it's about somebody who doesn't care for society and what it has to offer, so vows to do things his way | |

| I also love the fact that a lot of people who post on here are so young that they weren't around to hear it all first time - but they still get it even now. What finer tribute could there be to Weller's writing genius? | |
