The Jam-THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT

Capo 3rd Fret

Chords used are – G 320001 Em 022000 C x32010 Fmaj7 003210

Personally I think this way is a little easier to play and sounds just as good.
Hope you enjoy. Please send your comments and tell me how I could improve in future.

G Em
A police car and a screaming siren
G Em
Pneumatic drill and ripped up concrete
G Em
A baby wailing, stray dog howling
G Em
The screech of brakes and lamp light blinking
C Fmaj7 C Fmaj7 G Em G Em
That's entertainment, that's entertainment

The smash of glass and the rumble of boots
An electric train and a ripped up phone booth
Paint splatters walls and the cry of a tomcat
Lights going out and a kick in the balls
I say that's entertainment, that's entertainment-Ahh! La La La. . .

Days of speed and slow time Mondays
Pissing down with rain on a boring Wednesday
Watching the news and not eating your tea
A freezing cold flat, and damp on the walls
I say that's entertainment, that's entertainment

Waking up at 6’am on a cool warm morning
Opening the windows and breathing in petrol
An amateur band rehearsing in a nearby yard
Watching the telly and thinking about your holidays
That's entertainment, that's entertainment-Ahh! La La La. . .

Waking up from bad dreams and smoking cigarettes
Cuddling a warm girl and smelling stale perfume
A hot summer's day and sticky black tarmac
Feeding ducks in the park and wishing you were far away
That's entertainment, That's entertainment

Two lovers kissing amongst the scream of midnight
Two lovers missing the tranquillity of solitude
Getting a cab and travelling on buses
Reading the graffiti about slashed seat affairs
I say that's entertainment, that's entertainment-Ahh! La La La La La La. . .

A story of living in any dirty old town in England. A classic.

I love this song. It appears to be about normal British life, as it's played up by the media to be "cool" or interesting.

What makes me laugh is when TV uses it to literally mean Entertainment - like playing There's No Business Like Show Business. Again, like In The Crowd, it's such a good song, Weller still plays it in his solo gigs.

I think this song is about how anything in life nowadays can entertains us and nobody has to have a special talent to be entertaining. Awesome song. Weller is one of the best songwriters ever!

Lights going out and a kick in the balls - refers to a night when The Jam were playing with the Sex Pistols. Apparently Sid Vicious turned off the lights during The Jam's set and Paul Weller kicked him in the balls for doing it.
