i love this song! its brilliant! now im just pondering what it means. i had a feeling it was about these boys who used to give him a hard time because he wasnt able to fit into this bourgoise society he lives in. Because their lfestyle led them to things such as drugs and whatnot, this is where their downfall began. These 'wise" men who thought they were far superior to others are now an insignificant part of his life. Blunt's perseverance however, has led him to be a successful male artist whereas the other boys who are now grown men- "where are you now?".

I think this song is about James' feelings about the war he fought in. I believe it may be him asking him self "where are they now", as there is fear of the unknown. His inner most thoughts as he was running through the battle grounds, fearing what was round every corner. "Couldn't escape from you, couldn't be free of you" Suggest the people caught up in the middle, the citizens. On the other hand, it may be the people who were being fought against. They couldn't "escape from" the army/james , But now they are "really sorry for what they've done" when they realised "there's no way out" of being defeated and so they wished they'd never caused chaos to disrupt their country, as they are the ones who will suffer after they've been defeated and they now realise that. "Those three wise men, they've got a semi by the sea," I feel this may be a metaphor to explain how close, the situation is between suffers, the army and the dictators/disrupters. If they all live in a "semi" as in a semi-detatched house, this show how close together everyone is. Suggesting everyone is involved in that country, and there's no escaping the terror of war. There are many metaphors and alternative interpertaions in James' songs, so you could go on for absolutly days writing and writing. I'm gonna stop on that note... chao x Now they know there's no way out, and they're Really sorry now for what they've done, they were three wise men, just tryin' to have some fun."

this song is about bullying Came down from heaven (people who belive they r cool) (, smoked 9 'til 7,) some people belive that smoking is cool Couldn't escape from you, couldn't be free of you, ( basically this person wouldnt leave them alone ) use of wisemen ??? i think it could be reffering to the bullys Look who's alone now, it's not me, it's not me( perosn more lickerly to mess their life up )basscialy no one likes them. Gotta ask yourself the question, 'where are you now?' think he saying look at me look were i am im rich and im singer and ur not. 2nd verse is about them only judging each other bescause their cool and not how good they are. then they kinda rub it in saying he lost and then the singer says if your so good y arnt u were i am.

"they were three wise men, just tryin' to have some fun." or....the three wisemen may be the three main agonists who james/army were fighting aganist. He appears to use irony to take a stab at them, by saying " just tryin' to have some fun.". As, i feel this suggests how they didn't consider how many lives may be lost, and it's as if they are just playing with people's lives for "fun". Again the irony of "wise" men. I think this suggests total anger on james' behalf, as you have to ask yourself the question 'do wise people start wars without considering consequences?' "where are you now" may also mean, look where starting a war has got you. A huge attack on the staters of grief.

When I hear this song, I get the impression that the "wisemen" actually represent him. It sounds like a relationship that went sour, and although he's sorry for the way things turned out, he tries to justify it as just a bit of fun. The chorus seems almost vengeful, pointing out that he is no longer alone and living happily in his house by the sea. It then seems to suggest that this girl is probably alone and sounds like her life is a mess. The second verse sounds like it is another attack on all the pretense that came from that relationship. Maybe the reason it failed was because she was trying to hard to impress others and wasnt being herself. I get the feeling that maybe he followed with this too and regrets giving in to that pressure. All in all, I think the song is him looking back on a relationship and being glad that its over.

Where are the comments on this song? This is one of James's best... I've no idea what he's talking about in it, especially the line "those three wise men they've got a semi by the sea". So what if three intellectuals have a semi-detached property near the coast? I don't get this at all...

this might be wrong cos it only seems to make sense in certain places but some of the lyrics smack to me like hes having a go at the whole pop idol thing. three 'wise' people who 'just judge each other and try to impress' might also explain the whole 'were are you now' thing. maybe ? anyway just an idea

i think this is an amazing song, they're very detatched lyrics and i think it was be taken two ways. one is that the three wise men were a group of guys who, when they were all yonger, were after a girl who he was in love with and now that they've all matured he has finally got this girl and he's looking back and saying to the three guys; "look who's alone now, its not me". and asking them to ask themselves "where are you now" becasue they've thrown their lives away on drugs and shit earlier and now none of them are happy. the second is where he is one of the wise men, and they are a group of friends who were all pining over the one girl who treated them all like shit, and now that the three friends have grown up they realize that they dont need her to be happy and so they've all deserted her and he's telling the girl "look who's alone now, its not me" and that the three friends are all now happy that they've moved on. however you take the song to mean i think it is a terriffic song, the way he sings the lyrics is incredible and its such a unique song, one of, if not, his best.

Wow, you've thought about that a lot. Well done. Sorry to spoil it, but James only wrote one song about his experiences of war - No Bravery. Still, good interpretation.

To me, the "3 Wise Men" are people from earlier in James' life and the word wise is used ironically. I imagine these 3 Men were friends and used to give James a hard time maybe at school, maybe at Sandhurst, who knows. And James is basically saying well look at me now... oh and by the way "where are you now".

I don't see how anyone can use the "three wise men" without acknowledging biblical references. The wise men were in search of Messiah and salvation and purity. These wise men came down from heaven and therefore were already in possession of salvation and purity, so the question has to be what were they looking for in this world? There are two ways that man aspires to God and they are religion and art. I think this is about the corruption of art into celebrity, the rejection of what is good in favour of what is popular. I think he is all three of the wise men and has beat a retreat to the sea. But if he's living in a semi, whose walls adjoin his? Maybe no retreat is complete.
