this song is for Federica
INTRO:
G D Am C D G
VERSE 1
G D Am
How I wish I could surrender my soul;
C G D
Shed the clothes that become my skin;
D G
See the liar that burns within my needing.
G D Am
How I wish I'd chosen darkness from cold.
C G
How I wish I had screamed out loud,
D
Instead I've found no meaning.
chorus:
G D Am
I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain,
C G
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
D Am
Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray.
C G
I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble.
D G D
It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.
VERSE2
How I wish I could walk through the doors of my mind;
Hold memory close at hand,
Help me understand the years.
How I wish I could choose between Heaven and Hell.
How I wish I would save my soul.
I'm so cold from fear.
chorus:
I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain,
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray.
I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble.
Far, far away; find comfort in pain.
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.
Interlude:
G D Am C x2
Far, far away; find comfort in pain.
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.

| have to agree with ash, this song is mostly about getting back to ones true inner self, without the need for the 'props' that society and convention inflicts upon us. it is a very well written, beautifully sung introspective song by one of Britains finest :) | |

| i think this song has a lot to do with the identity crisis that people of modern society are going through. the concept of the unique self, uninhibited is crushed by the need for conformity rather than just acceptance. 'shed the clothes that become my skin'... strip away the facade put up to conform, 'see the fire that burns within my needing'... reveal the true wants, desires, etc. the reference to Dorian Gray is perfect for the subject, showing how our need to subvert the true self to conform will only result in 'tears and rain' unseen to the rest of the world... pain that has its comforts, but also its internal rammifications. he says 'how i wish i could walk through the doors of my mind'... wanting to for once be able to think without the influence of society... without the narrowness of conformity. 'so cold with fear'... expressing the motivation behind conformity, fear of isolation, being disliked, etc. at least thats what i thought... its a beautifully written song... -ash | |

| "I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain, All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble. Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray." i really like that part of the song. i think he's trying to say that in pain and sorrow is when your true character will show. anyone can put on a facade when everything is going there way, and their life is pleasurable. Yet, when sorrow and destruction come, their true colors start to show. i don't know, that's my interpretation. i really like this song. he's an amazing artist. | |

| Dorian Gray is a character from Oscar Wilde's 'Picture of Dorian Gray' he sells his soul to stay forever beautiful, young and innocent looking like a portrait of himself. He commits all kinds of sins and evils but none of this shows. The portrait is hidden in an attic where it become old and ugly and shows the evil inside him. He ends up killing himself at the end by stabbing the portrait. Basically it 'hides his true shape' | |

| I think that many more references to the Picture of Dorian Gray can be found in this song. The chorus says "All pleasure's the same" which is similar to the story because Dorian lives his entire life for pleasure. After living for awhile and never changing physically, he begins repeating the same pleasures over and over again and then eventually starts looking for different forms of pleasure. Also "i've heard what they say" and "It's more than just words" In the book, Dorian is influenced greatly by a character that says many of Wilde's most quoted lines. Although the character (Harry) says stuff liek "the only way to rid of temptation is to yield to it" he never follows these ideas to their full extent, whereas Dorian does. It is these words that first "corrupt" Dorian and creates him what he is. Towards the end of the novel, Dorian has become disgusted/frightened with his life and he is trying to find an opium den to forget everything. It is raining hard and outside is dreary and this part also connects with " guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain" | |

| To me, this song simply means an identity crisis, like you have no idea who you really are and trying so hard to understand yourself. I know most people have been through this I know I have. btw tigerlily there are a few artists that are quite similar to Mr. Blunt, like Aqualung . Damien Rice . Cary Brother's . | |

| This song was fitting of the time when I first heard it. I was trying to figure out what to do with my life after leaving school before going to university, particularly "I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain" becuase it typified what I felt inside at the time | |
