I got the impression (albeit perhaps a wrong one) that this song was sort of a dig at modern society. The riteous and pure (according to the bible) 'wisemen', have been corrupted by today's society, and caught up "in your talent show, with you panikety little bastards and your fancy dress, who just judge each other and try to impress"...that's kind of like a metaphor for today's society and the way people act in it. Asking the question "where are you now" is encouraging people to question where their lives are heading, what they plan to do with it etc. The "Semi by the sea" bit, to me, shows how people see success as material possessions - the three wise men are happy with their possessions, their drugs and their lifestyle. They think they're having fun, and they've been caught up in the modern way of life. That's my thought anyway, i thought it fit quite well.

When I first read the lyrics, I thought it was about rape, but now I beleive it it is about bullying. The pop idol idea was very good, but I don't think the rest of the lyrics quite match it. I think the :wisemen" wanting to have fun refers to their bullying of James for "fun"

this is the best song i've heard in a while. i think it's about how shallow people are sometimes and also kind of relates to 3 guys growing up throughout it, thinking of the things they'd done through their lives.......no matter what it means, it's amazing

When I hear this song, I get the impression that the "wisemen" actually represent him. It sounds like a relationship that went sour, and although he's sorry for the way things turned out, he tries to justify it as just a bit of fun. The chorus seems almost vengeful, pointing out that he is no longer alone and living happily in his house by the sea. It then seems to suggest that this girl is probably alone and sounds like her life is a mess. The second verse sounds like it is another attack on all the pretense that came from that relationship. Maybe the reason it failed was because she was trying to hard to impress others and wasnt being herself. I get the feeling that maybe he followed with this too and regrets giving in to that pressure. All in all, I think the song is him looking back on a relationship and being glad that its over.

im not sure exactly and this is without thinking about it a great deal but i think its something to do with where people are in their lives. Like three young guys who used a fuck around with drugs and stuff and then they matured a little and now own houses and stuff but then thats just a part of the song. theres whole other sides to it and other levels that need to be explored but i dnt have the time. also sometimes i think its quite nice just to listen to a song that you dont completely understand on all levels, and that you havent ripped to pieces trying to understand. I think its supposed to be a confusing song and you should enjoy it that way because if you rip a song to pieces exploring its meanings then you will lose some of the magic - no matter what.

i love this song. i think sections of it for example the chorus is about looking back at bullies etc saying that you need to take a view on where you got from it as I have got somewhre and you havent. .... Also I think maybe it might be about a rape? the beginning signals to me that she "said go steady on me" etc and she is looking back saying look where I am! Thats just my view on it though! Enjoy this song its brill! x

"Really sorry now, they want to know, they got caught up in your talent show, With you panikety little bastards and your fancy dress, Who just judge each other, and try to impress" I love those lines, not just because they're fantastic lyrics but I love the way James sings them too. 'Wisemen' is easily the best song from his album.

but...perhaps it does still hold meaning to more than one thing. metaphorical and just alternative interpretation in this song. Just coz he's written 'No Bravery' directly about the war, doesn't mean his other songs don't include more than one story.

You should have been with me woman! Not with another man which I won't lose no sleep over but she still smiled at me on the subway! ;) I'm not alone, you lost the opportunity with me, you are alone, suffering and miserable ; '...Look who's alone now, it's not me, it's not me, Gotta ask yourself the question, 'where are you now?...'
