Her voice is awesome, just close your eyes and you hear all the subtleties that arent in modern music. the way the backing singers chime in. the simple but fantastic use of the guitar. Boy does she sing like she means it. 1

I have heard this song covered twice (Once by a soul person who I cant remember the name of, and once very recently (early 2006) by Beverly Knight). Now, Beverly Knight is a great talent but even she cannot give it the rocky edge Janis gives this song. Janis was pure rock. Her gravely voice was perfect for this song. I doubt I will EVER hear someone sing this better than her. (Joss Stone did a good attempt at the Grammy's but even she will admit Janis owns this song)
