"If I can't swim after forty days" fgbiad mentioned the fact that the forty days could possibly relate to the forty days Jesus returned for after his ressurection. Another forty days it could relate to is the forty days that Jesus was in the wilderness, being tempted by Satan. Still, like OpinionHead, I believe the forty days is a metaphor for the Flood mixed with this temptation. "It hasn't stopped raining for days, My world is a flood" "Cast down all the waves of sin and guilt that overthrow me" Its about drowning in sin and/or the temptation to sin. Its a cry to God for help.

hey i like this song it too! =p it's very upliftong esp. after a trial or a "sad experience"..i mean, even if the beat is kinda like...rockish a little, it gets the soul stirrin'. No matter what it talks about, as long our hearts tell us that's it's in relation to God, then it's all good. =)
