VERSE 3: (DO G-C-F-Bb,F)
see i'm a down home brother, redneck undercover
with my guitar here i'm ready to play
and i'm a sucker for philly
got a natural ability to give the freestyle
look at my flexibility
dangerous on the mic
my ghetto hat's cocked right
all the ladies say, "yo, that kid is crazy"
we got the backstage betties taking more than they can get
they say, "what's up with m-r-a-z?"
BRIDGE: (SAME AS VERSE)
hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
something's different in my world today
well they changed my traffic sign to a brighter yellow
hey, hey, something's different in my world today
well they changed my traffic sign to a brighter yellow
i'm just a curbside prophet love
a curbside brother love
a curbside brother love
a curbside oh come on
i'm just a curbside prophet and i'm waiting for my rocket
i'm waiting for my rocket to come
Rock On!

| Um... about "beating the meat", I must confess I thought the same at one time... but I still love this song. In fact, I just love Jason Mraz. ^-^ If he's still a sucker, I'll be his filly! hahaha My favorite lines come at the end: "They've changed my traffic signs to a brighter yellow". I think that shows that things in his life/career where looking up & life was going great. Life was just more vibrant. | |

| Download the live version of the song if you can. The extra lyrics seem to make that whole "sexual connotation" a little more clear... | |

| This song is hilarious, I first heard it and I was like this sounds kinda country, and he sings the first verse and I was like yeah it does sound like a country but mixed with pop. But then he starts rapping, I was like "What the?". This song is just so funny! it has a crazy mix of different styles and I think that's what makes him so good. I think the song is mostly his story, how he started and now he's just waiting for his chance, to really become a huge star, to come. | |

| If you listen to alot of mraz songs they have alot of sexual inuendos thats why he says hes all about the wordplay like in clockwatching he calls himself a two pump chump... what else could that possibly mean 1 | |

| The version on the live album is awesome, with john popper (from blues traveller) on harmonica and an extra verse that really makes the song ("Now i'm realizing the 3rd verse/without even rehearsing/lacing up my converse/and conjugating the verbs"). The song was written with mraz's friend bushwalla, who does crazy ecclectic music, hence the funkiness in the song. It was basically written as a mini-bio. Mraz played on street corners in New York before he moved to San Diego, hence the "curbside prophet". As far as i can tell, the "waiting for me rocket" is just him looking forward to a bright future... but you can bet he kept the line because of the double meaning. The kid has a fantastically dirty mind. | |

| i found some sexual connotation in the chorus... a curbside prophet with his HAND in his POCKET waiting for his "ROCKET" to COME. yeah. i didn't think about it until he kept talking about truckers. | |

| the song is pretty good, but it sounds like jason mraz is talkin about beatin his meat. think about it...."got my hand in my pocket and im waitin on my rocket to come" translated, it should say "im playin pocket pull, and im anticipating blowing my wad!" | |

| i think you guys all had good points about it. i always thought this song meant wat sakebox was talking about. but it is alot of an allegory too. hellohello is right about the song showing how versatile he is. i think that has something to do with why this song is so appealing. | |

| A curbside prophet is a homeless person that rants that the world is going to end. With a hand in his pocket, his comment "waiting for my rocket to come" is a double entendre---both masturbation and sci-fi. | |

| It's about him deciding to become a musician and the curbiside prophet reference is refering the the psychic who encouraged him to follow his dreams of becoming a muscian (which he know says he thinks was just a homeless guy, but anyway). And because of his encounter with this man he decided to move to Cali and that's where he really started to take off (musically). It's all autobiographical. | |
