oooo...this is such a bittersweet song. It reminds me of all the time right after a break up in a relationship. When you're awake, you can be fine without the person, becuase you build an emotional wall-- nothing can touch you. But then that wall is torn down so quickly when you go to sleep, because they are always there. You have no control over reliving lost memories. They are good memories, but they only hurt now.

i love this song. it is so sweet. it reminds me of a relationship where he loves the girl but for that minute in time he cant be with her. so he cant wait to sleep just to think of her because thats as close as he will get right now. jason mraz is amazing.

I'm 100% the lyrics go "and I'm so damn tired of having to live without you" all the lyric sites that i've been to forget the damn, and the and. For shame. I've seen him live too and I agree that he is soo better live! Especially since he has an awesome personality to go along with his amazing voice. I think this is about any relationship where you have to live without the person. That could be a long distance relationship, or a person who doesn't love you back. In my mind it could also be about a person that you aren't living without litterally but you feel separated from them for some reason, even though they are there it seems like they're not? I dunno. I wish Jason Mraz would sing the whole "as I lay me down tonight" bit to me while going to bed! It'd make the awesomest lullaby everrrrrr.

To me, it means one of two things: 1) A long distance relationship 2) Someone you like too much and you wish you could sleep next to them, but you can't...and you dream about them..and the only way you can be with them is in your dreams.

This song reminds me of something that's going on in my life write now. I think he's thinking about someone who he can't be with. Possibly a long distance relationship? I love this song.

Well to answer a previous comment, the back up singer is Toca Rivera. Jason mentions him tons on his live CD and everywhere else, he also plays a special type of drum, the name escapes me. I think a lot of people are saying this song reminds them of a long distance relationship. I can believe it but, for me it reminds me of an ex gf that I would love to be with but, just cant. In your dreams you can dream of being together but everytime your awake you are forced to live life without them. "Im so tired of having to live without you." It means in our dreams is that place we can go and forget the facts that you are not with the one you love. Thats just me 1

exactly...this song is so sweet....I like the lines: "I found myself in the riches (Your eyes, your lips, your hair.) Well you were everywhere But I woke up in the ditches. I hit the light and I thought you might be here but you were nowhere." *jason's got skills for rhyming!

A thought on my part, Could the song be about someone who died? the But I woke up in the ditches. I hit the light and I thought you might be here but you were nowhere. You were nowhere at home. adds to that, I think, because if someone you loved died, and you had a dream about that person, then woke up and remembered, then might you not want to belive when you wake up that that was part of the dream? I dunno. Maybe I'm just stupid. But I think it's a valid idea. Though all of the pre-mentioned ones seemed to work pretty well as well.

I think you all are right with the long distance relationship meaning... but I see another meaning to it too, one I can relate to more. I also think it could be someone waiting to meet their dream girl/guy. He's so tired of living without that girl in his life. That's how I relate to it anyway... Seems like all the great guys I know are taken or gay, lol... Kelsey

this one is absolutely amazing. but there's another singer in the background, is that just a backup guy? jason doesn't have many backup vocalists in many of his songs, so i wasn't sure who this extra voice was...
