Jason Mraz - Wordplay
Tabbed by: Drew (drewfonts@yahoo.com)
Intro: G - C9 - D (x2)
Leave the high E string open on all three chords
Verse: Em G Am7
Em
I've been all around the world
G
I've been a new sensation
Am7
But it doesn't really matter in this ge-generation
The sophomore slump is an uphill battle
And someone said they knew my scene
Cause they need a new song like a new religion
Music for the television
I can't do the long division someone do the math
The record label puts me on the shelf up in the freezer
Gotta find another way to live the life of leisure
Pre-chorus:
Em G
So I drop my top mix and I mingle
Am7
Is everybody ready for the single and it goes...
Chorus:
G C9 D
Ah la la la love...now listen closely to the verse I lay
Ah la la la love...it's all about the wordplay
Ah la la la love
D
The wonderful thing it does because because
Em D/F#
I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa la la's
C9
Yeah the Mr. A to Z they say I'm all about the wordplay
Verse 2:
And it's time to get ill I got your remedy
For those who don't remember me well let me introduce you to my style
I try to keep a jumble and the lyrics never mumble
When the music's making people tongue-tied
You want a new song like a new religion
Music for the television
I can't do the long division someone do the math
For the people write me off like I'm a one hit wonder
Gotta find another way to keep from going under
Pre-chorus 2:
Em
Pull out the stops
(no chord)
Got your attention
Am7
I guess it's time again for me to mention the wordplay... (Chorus)
Bridge:
Am
Oh, the bridge across the stream of consciousness
B
It always seems to be a flowing but I don't know which way my brain is going
E5 D5 C5
Oh the remedy, the time it kicks, the melodies inside me and I'm curving till I'm
out of air
Am
Are you prepared to take a dive into the deep end of my head
B
Are you listening to a single word I've said?
Chorus: (just guitar)
G C9 D
Ah la la la love
Listen closer to the words I say
Ah la la love
We're sticking to the wordplay
Ah la la la love
The wonderful thing it does because because I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa la la's
Yeah the Mr. A to Z they say I'm all about the wordplay
Final Chorus: (full band)
G C9 D
Ah la la la love
I'm all about the wordplay
Ah la la la love
Sticking with the wordplay
Ah la la la love
I love the wonderful thing it does because because of my ooh's and ah's and fa la la's
back in love
With the Mr. A to Z they say is all about the wordplay

| WOW, WOW, WOW is this song awful. If you're going to spend an entire song bragging about your flow, you've got to give it some oomph. You can't just say it's good, you've got to say that your flow is the best goddamn flow in the whole world and you're going to kick some ass. Otherwise you get something as simpering and soft-edged as this piece of mush. | |

| I don't think it's a very deep song, but it's got a nice melody and his voice sounds great. Sort of poking-fun lyrics, which I always like. nice single for the new album. | |

| couple other mistakes in the lyrics that i can see in the first verse it's "cuz they need a new song like a new religion music for the television" then later "the lyrics never MUMBLE" and "there's a bridge across the stream OF consciousness" just some minor fixes, i know. but i love this song, mraz is great, and i wanted to make sure everyone could get the correct words to try and sing along. | |

| I kinda agree with what Kimn's trying to say, in that Jason's trying to prove himself in this one. It's a typical 'Yeah, I know you don't like me and gave me bad reviews, and you don't like my style... so up yours, this is me'. This is Jason Mraz's way of doing what Eminem did in 8 Mile with that last rap battle. Go Jason! | |

| Great Jason!!! 'Wordplay' and 'Plane' are the best songs on Mr. A-Z, different song styles but fun with variation, this is not a serious song and sometimes that's pleasant.. also amazing how fast he sings, I have problems bc I'm out of air, if someone understand what I mean :P 1 2 Next | |

| You know what, it's just a silly song. A musician having fun with his music. I love his lyrics, this is no exception, deep or not. Its a good beat and very upbeat, ala Mr Mraz. . . I loves it! | |

| It's about not being written off. He has confidence in his music and he's going to continue making music as long as he can. I love his use of wordplay in his songs. I think he's an extremely talented lyricist and muscian. | |

| alright...all i can say is I LOVE JASON MRAZ. he definitely is better live and thats unbelievable because he sounds so amazingly great. well...the lyrics are wrong "now listen closer to the muse i leave"... i think it is, " now listen closely to the verse i lay" oh well...this song it not as deep as some of his others, but definitely just as fun to listen to | |

| Oh and I believe it's "I CAN'T do the long division / Someone do the math." I visited another site (www.sing365.com) that posted the lyrics, which corroborated my suspicion that I'm right about that. The line is funny and it's one of my favorite lines from this song and I think that whoever posted the lyrics got it wrong. The point of the line is Jason is here to write and perform songs, and to have fun doing it. He does not want to be bothered by the business and accounting side of his profession. "Someone do the math" to me means someone else manage my business and do the accounting, because I'd rather not worry about stuff like how many spins on how many stations my songs get. | |

| it's so crazy how much producers affect the finished product when is comes to jmraz his cds (esp rocket) sound very contrived. his live stuff is soooo different. but this is why i love him even more- he's so versatile and does well with me both ways. i remember reading a real bad review from rolling stone or something. and they just trash mr. a-z and talk about how conceited this song is. my point is that jmraz's songs are very playful and you're not supposed to take him seriously. i guess only certain people get that, which is a shame, because they're missing out. | |

| This song is depressing. He's basically saying that what he does is no longer an artform. He's merely the medium for the corporate pupeteer. He's singing the words... not because he's driven by the beat, but rather forced by the mold that people have creasted for him. It's too bad. | |

| I'm an IDIOT...I JUST NOW realized the Mr. A-Z (Mraz) thing....duh Wendy....kay, other than feeling REALLY stupid let me just say that creative lyricists are the hottest thing ever. I swoon over someone who can write lyrics like this, they're just so amazing...melody is cool and all, but lyrics totally light my fire. I just wish more people would realize the talent in this instead of drooling over Mariah Carey's comeback or whathaveyou | |

| Jason Mraz is now touring as the supposedly minor act with Alanis Morissette, who is the major act of the tour. Alanis's new acoustic-guitar style Jagged Little Pill album sounds surprisingly good, I heard a playing of at least half its songs on a local radio station. A local newspaper reviewer said of the tour that this was definitely Alanis's show, although Jason is "golden-voiced." I don't see how Alanis would be considered be better act though, Jason's rap-style singing verses just kick ass and he certainly does have a better voice than Alanis. I think he would be the better crowd pleaser, but hey what do I know. Anyway yeah I'm waiting to hear another single from this album, this song is interesting but it's not "The Remedy" or "Curbside Prophet." | |

| bleh....this is about him not being a one-hit wonder....how he'll be fine even though he's all poppish now because it's all about the "wordplay" (or words in his songs) | |
