Guh. I don't think you can compare the Ataris to Jawbreaker at all. Jawbreaker is an amazing band, and is probably the most influential mid-90s band to a lot of the emo and pop punk happening right now. The Ataris are stale and uninteresting. They're the kind of emopoppunk (is it a genre yet?) that I can't stand listening to because it sucks so badly. Compare "Fireman", for instance, to anything The Ataris have ever done and tell me there's something with the emotional depth, complexity, and lyrical prowess. Jawbreaker is a much superior band.

don't be foolish...that version is only decent at best and ataris lyrics can't even compare to anything written by blake. most of ataris lyrics are laughable "i'm giving up on love, cause it really kinda sucks" please...

It's meant to show just how pathetic it is to denounce people for not fitting up to a label. Basically, it's saying that "if you think the scene is about that, fuck you I don't want to be a part of it." Notice that " You're not punk, and I'm telling everyone." Sounds almost something like a kid would say to another kid in the playground, it's meant to emphasis the childishness of it all.

This song is about the "Bay Area Punk Scene" at that time, making rules in trying to classify who is punk and who is not.

yeah he may owe everything but that doesnt mean the ataris arent good...let not get into a huge ataris/jawbreaker debate tho...lets just leave it as: everyone has their own opinions on both bands

Got a friend. Her name is Boxcar. Cigarettes and beer in El Sob. Her hair was blue, now it's green. i don't get this part, is it supposed to be taken literally? and if so, why the name 'boxcar'? if not, what's the referance. anyone know?

Yeah, comparing the ataris to jawbreaker is just plain silly. and stupid. and ridiculous. cmon, don't insult jawbreaker. The Ataris write generic pop-punk overlaid with tired cliches for lyrics. seriously.

Are these kids serious? Chances are they're all under the age of 17 with absolutely no perspective. The Ataris can't come close to the impact and relevancy that Jawbreaker had and still has on modern rock.

i'm not trashing kris either, it just seems everything he writes is about love or hating something/someone

Well antiflag, you can thank Jawbreaker then, for making the Ataris who they are. The rest of you should thank Jawbreaker too, they made you all who you are. They are the one true God. Fuck the Ataris, Jawbreaker started it all.
