	I absolutely love this song!! Its so beautiful... but then what of Jeff's isn't! The line "nobody ever came" gets me every time. Especially since hearing the whole story behind the song and putting it into context with the whole fatherhood theme.

	the imagery in this song is ungodly. the best i've ever seen or heard. every line is perfect. butterscotch and black feather wings and the ocean washing over.

	"Don't be like the one who made me so old Don't belie the one who left behind his name 'Cause they're waiting for you like i waited for mine And nobody ever came " As hang_on_to_a_dream suggests, these lines are clearly about Jeff's own father, Tim, who died before Jeff knew him. He's imploring his friend not to leave his own son the same way Jeff's father left him. This song has a remarkable shape to it - highly asymmetrical, extremely textured with variations in tempo and tone. Just another bit of evidence that JB was unique.

	Listening to Dream Brother for the first time, I knew that each line drew from the non-existent relationship with his father, or as Jeff referred to him, Tim. After reading the book, "Dream Brother," by David Browne, my theories were confirmed, as it was said to be a song to his friend, pleaing that he not abandon his pregnant girlfriend. Didn't mean to parrot the words of hang_on_to_a_dream haha. This song is so sad to listen to. For me, it's just a reminder of how short and painful Jeff's life really was. Abandoned, lost, pining, wondering, wandering, uneasiness. Of course, I'm not Jeff, and I didn't know him, but I just feel like he couldn't have been very satisfied during his life.

	I really hate how you all speak like you knew him personally. There's about a .00000001% chance you did, so don't assume you know what the song was about. I guess this is pure hypocracy considering that I'm on songmeanings.net, but Jeff Buckley is different. Only he could truly know what his lyrics mean.

	Have u ever just went to the beach ,on a warm fall evening,with the starsshining so bright in space, alone you lay down in the sand near the ocean let the waves roll over you close your eyes and let all of your worries disappear into thin air? Not exactly sleeping but similiar. Anyhow you look at it There's something really scary yet peaceful about the whole action of this massive black and blue sea flowing over you.Not knowing if something is out there waiting to take u away or bite u surrendering yourself to 3/4 of this world.Truly an amazing sensation. In my opinion. Anyway Dream Brother being the first song Jeff ,Michael, mick,and matt wrote is really spectacular. Thanks Matt Saunders for the info on Sleep over, never heard about that till now. Have heard tongue though . One of the Instrumentals for the movie. For those who never seen it or heard this song, try and find a cd called Screaming down from heaven, the Ultra Rare tracks,vol.2 this is the only cd I know that has this wonderful track. I stumbled across this at ROLLING STONES in CHICAGO. Hard to explain but I assume this movie is kind of bizarre, based on tongue. To be honest I play this track when I take naps press repeat and dream away. very Relaxing , very. As for the lyrics about the late Tim Buckley to his friend seems about right. I'm sure the man had alot of everything going on upstairs. One more thing check out the' Peyote Theatre' US PROMO EP,94 there's a really cool version of Dream Brother(Nag Champa Mix) or the JB's Diamonds From The Pavement, Ultra Rare Tracks, vol.1 also has this version. Also the Al'Olympia, live album has some improv in Dream Brother. AVUNCULAR knows what I speak of. 	Jeff wrote this song for a screenplay he read that turned into an Australian film called "sleepover". I ordered it recently, and I can't wait to see it to see what inspired this song. He also wrote two acoustic instrumental songs for this film. It's supposed to be a coming-of-age film about some young boys growing up.

	this is one of my all-time favourite songs. jeff did write this for his best friend, who was going to leave his girlfriend and the child she was carrying. he wrote the lyric "don't be like the one who made me so old" as a plea to his friend as he himself grew up without his father, who left while his mother was pregnant. this making him old beyond his years. and it also has an extra power for me with the final line being so tragically prophetic. the last line on the only album he ever completed, "asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over".

	I'm sure he drew upon the memory of his friend for the song, but he wrote the song for that movie. He also wrote "Tongue" for that movie. That's one of the instrumental tracks I was talking about.

	I beleive taking into account the work of his father this song can be seen as a plea to the hopeless romantics. It's the pain created by a lofty ignorence and an unwavering desire to relate only with solitude and the permenance. Jeff, naturally would have recognised this also in himself.

	The version on the Live a L'Olympia album is extra-creepy. The last line becomes "Asleep in the ground with your family watching over Dead in the sand with the ocean washing over" That certainly puts a new spin on things, eh?

	wow, i had no idea that DREAM BROTHER was a plea from Jeff to his friend, not to leave his girlfriend and baby!!! I have always had a strong connection to this song, and never known why... I grew up without a father (he left my mother when she was pregnant) and that has had a dramatic effect on my life. I now know why i have that connection, and will no longer think of DREAM BROTHER the same way again.

	This song is clearly about him telling his friend not to abandon his pregnent gf!! take the lyrics for example the line "dont be like the one who made me so old, dont be like the one who left behind his name"- hes telling his friend to not be like his father who left him completely. In the third voice hes saying he feels pain for the unborn child saying "i know how you feel ive been there" Brilliant song i hope that this song persuaded the guy who was going to leave his gf to stay with her.
