Jesus And Mary Chain Just Like Honey Guitar Tab

Song: Just Like Honey
Artist: The Jesus & Mary Chain
Album: Psychocandy
Tabbed by: Rich Milwain (ramilwain@yahoo.co.uk)
Tuning: Standard (E,A,D,G,B,E)
It's a bit hard to make out exactly what's being played over all the fuzz but the guitar goes
something like this. Make sure that you let all the chords ring. To get a good sound use some
fuzz effect or a lot of gain. It sounds better with the tone set high.

This is a beautiful song... I first heard it at the end of "Lost In Translation" and I've been in love with the Jesus and Mary Chain ever since.

Well, if he's giving her head, then she would be "up" and he would be "down," spatially speaking. Just saying, is all.

reidbottorff, sex can be poetic and you can make something like that seem more than it is.

This would be even more tearjerking if it were done acoustic and really slow. The line that always gets me welling up is 'Walking back to you is the hardest thing that I can do'. 100% genius, raw emotion. Viva The Chain.

This song is very sexual. "Honey Dripping Bee Hive" alludes to that part of a the female anatomy. The "Plastic Toy" that he wants to be might substitute for the girl's "toy". A few other lyrical clips support this idea. All together its an awesome song though.

o, i forgot to mention about the "i'll be your plastic toy". the meaning of that should be obvious to some of you females out there with "plastic toys". also, the "it's so good, so good" refers to how he enjoys having sex with her.

It's very much about oral sex, but that acts as a representation for the rest of their relationship as well.

this song is so beautiful! I agree with ryantyme, Sofia Coppola is in fact a genius. I've watched Lost in Translation more than 5 times, and i happen to cry at that moment, when this song plays.. But whats exactly does it mean?

i think it might be about someone who is in love with someone (that is a friend perhaps) and would do anything for them (be their plastic toy etc.) but the person doesnt love them back and breaks their heart by pursuing other people. maybe eating up the scum is perservering and holding in the feelings and still being their friend despite how much it hurts them. this is actually just the situation that i am in...haha. but i think the lyrics can apply to it.

Well, like sex, some things that are pleasurable to others are done begrudgingly by the one who loves you. It's about give and take.

definitly regarding sex, in more ways than one, again, not every sentence is about sex... the whole "eating up the scum" is just jim's way of expressing how low he feels at times, quite possibly because the girl in question treats him like garbage yet he's still enchanted with her because of sex.

Wow. Very symbolic song. I think it's about love and how someone can be your very own protective angel, someone that comforts you and brings you peace of mind and a feeling of well-being. Sofia Coppola is a genious for using that song in the final scene of Lost in Translation. It always makes me realize how much people can shape your life when you feel completely lost. Those people that appear in your life then fade away. A song with a similar "I'm lost" feel to it would be Girls by Death in Vegas (from the same soundtrack). Another one with a similar meaning is Being Boring by the Pet Shop Boys.

That actually sounds plausible^ But the song is so beautiful I don't know if I can accept that theory. I like the extremely simple arrangement. It seems to be used in a poetic way. It reminds me a child-like helplessness, to understand more than you can express. My favorite part is at the break, where the guitar in the background sounds as if it's someones first chord ever on a guitar, again reflecting upon the idea of developing realizations and understanding. Such a pretty song.

This songs is a masterpiece... I don't think it's about going down on someone though.... It was pefect for the final scene in LIT. A fucking great song and a fucking great movie! BTW did you know the part where Bob whispers in Charlottes ear right at the end? That was (apparently) improvised, and only Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanssen know what he said.... Love it.

Lost in Translation is a very meaningful movie. This song compliments it very well. Its monotonous drone creates an ethereal effect that isn't common in songs. A very good piece.

if it were about oral sex that would be quite disgusting, especially with the "eating up the scum" part.

Here is the real meaning of the song. (Many of Jesus and Mary Chain's songs have a sexual meaning and even the titles of their songs suggest this; for example, "In a Hole", "Taste of Cindy", and "Sowing Seeds" are some other songs on the same album that "Just like Honey" is on.) The guy writing "Just Like Honey" is talking about how he dislikes having to give his girlfriend oral pleasure after they have had sex. "listen to the girl" refers to the noises she makes during sex. "half the world" refers to his male body part. "moving up and so alive in her honey dripping behive" refers to him having actual sex with her. (his "half the world" is moving up inside her "honey dripping behive") and "walking back to you is the hardest thing for me to do" means he does not like having to finish her off orally after he has done the deed and cleaned up. "eating up the scum" refers to him having to eat his own ***** which is still inside her "behive" Call me crazy, but this is the true meaning of the song. I, too, very much liked "Lost in Translation". But if you think the song is about overcoming obstacles in life or some such thing, then you are mistaken.

If you think this song is only about sex, then you have limited the song too much, in my opinion. Does it have sexual undertones? Yes, very much so. Are they explicit? Not at all. If you're writing about only one thing, is it a good idea to be explicit? Yeah. The only reasons, then, for the obscurity of the sexual references that I can think of are either pretentiousness, or the fact that the song was about more than one thing. Personally, if I had to take a stab at it, I would say that the song is about a relationship, and the things that we choke down for the sake of love, the debasement that we endure for the sake of others. Sexually, emotionally, socially.
