| this is such a good song. and nirvana has nothing on this. wow, an A chord and an F chord. obvioulsy its a gyp. i think this song is about himself..about trying to get all the shit out of himself in the form of lyrics and then beginning to doubt his own worth. good shit. | |

| at first it sounds like heart shaped box a little bit, but after you listen to it a few times, it completely takes on it's own nature. i agree with the song being about writers block or whatnot, but it took on a total different meaning for me when my ex broke up with me. especially the end. | |

| i love this song. everyone has hit on the meaning, i just want to say that it is so amazing when he builds up with "i can't think with all this noise" at the end of the song, and the guitar and drums come in strong. this song is brilliant. | |

| I agree with the locking-himself-in-a-room-and-trying-to-write theory, but I think that when he says "note to self: no one cares, your voice is average" he's comming to the realization that no one really cares about his personal problems because everyone feels the same things. We all suffer lonliness and other common feelings, so his experiences are nothing unique. | |

| I love the ending best! It really does kick ass. That part seems to be about maybe an old partner who has fallen in love with somebody else 'they're playing love songs on YOUR radio tonight, I don't get those songs on mine' as in he's got nobody he's in love with. And you keep fucking up my life, well that's a familiar sentiment! Interesting about Kerouac references! | |

| You guys who said Kerouac would be right. The song is about what Truman Capote said of On the Road when it came out, "That's not writing, it's typing." Another little known fact is when the Jets first did this song in Philly with the Promise Ring and then in New York with Modest Mouse, the song was called, I Typed For Miles So Please Don't Write Me Off. That great thing about Blake's lyrics they are so broad that you can take any kind of meaning from them. "You keep fucking up my life" maybe the best ending of a song ever. | |

| Actually I think this is a song about writer's block. He holed himself up in a hotel room to write some songs and he just can't get anything on the paper. He begins to doubt his choice of career (note to self: no one cares, your voice is average). By the end he's completely exasperated. | |

| wow I really like this song. I relate to it. Sometimes I just sit there and write. Even though it's never good enough. In this song He's typing because he's having some kind of girl troubles. He's bitter he's not in love. I like this song, blake is my hero. | |

| actually i believe this song is about author jack kerouac from the beat generation. when kerouac wrote his most famous book "on the road" it is said that he just sat down and wrote "for miles" on a typewriter without stopping. for those jawbreaker fans out there, i'm sure you remember in the song boxcar when he sings "you don't know what i'm all about. like killing cops and reading kerouac." the connections are obvious, however i'm sure there are some personal lines in the song as well because not all of it perfectly relates to kerouac's life. | |

| How amazing is this song? especially when he says "you keep fucking up my life." ...though, my favorite verse is most definitely "note so self, no one cares. your voice is average. in worried piles I typed for miles and you just stood there. " I think everyone can relate to those words in some way or another. | |

| Yes! Someone else thought about the Kerouac thing. I was starting to think I was the only one. I've just thought of Jack sitting in his little San Francisco apartment typing forever, not getting up, not sleeping...just taking lots to pills and typing. The actual first draft of "On the Road" is about 100 feet long, but that's not important. It seems like miles, and more importantly and it's all lyrical, not literal. | |

| Kerouac lived a troubled life, esp from mid life to the end. I know while living in Florida he lived in an extremely small room built on the back of cracker house (initially for GI's returning from war). the photos of him living there are in black and white (i believe it made the cover of a magazine or two :) and his eyes are deep, coal black. the room is surrounded by little notebooks of notes that he condenses into a typewriter. he also loved to sleep out doors and note the night skys. if blake didn't use Kerouac's life to liken it to his own, then he leads a pretty remarkably similar lifestyle or feeling of sentiments. JK was also a known and popularized american buddist, in a sense... i figure that might relate to the whole levitating thing. | |

| Well ja, i agree about the writers block, and self doubt "I have been kissed between the ears by human error" But with the whole love thing, it seems to me like he's trying to maybe block out some memory of this girl, and he is trying to do so by writing, and he's just writing and writing until he forgets. "they're playing love songs on the radio tonight, I can't relate to that right now". It's just so bitter, he's just really angry with this one person, and he's trying to concentrate on writing...but he can't. Because in the end, he just kind of rolls onto a different track with the "you keep fucking up my life". I love when he says "note to self : no one cares." | |

| I love this song,I love all of blake's songs they are all full emotion. His songs are very depressing alot of the time though.I think in this song there are maybe a couple meanings but the frustration he is having is one of the most obvious ("you keep **** my life" heh). Its a familiar feeling for me to believe that you are alone , who would care, and what to do with your life. A wave of hoplessness will comsumes you and you get the idea that theres no other way out.... | |
