| I was at her concert a few years ago and Jewel was answering questions from the audience about different things and someone asked if Adrian was about someone she knew...she said she was sorry to disapoint but it wasnt about anyone she knew and the same with the song "Painters". It was very funny how the whole audience kinda let out this sigh which she then began to apologize for saying that she should have just lied and said it was about a personal experience. If you have never seen her in concert she is great...very personal and sounds just as good live as she does on her CDs. I think what it means at the end of the song when it says "Adrian came home again last summer, Things just haven't been the same around here" that he passed away which can be described as going "home" to [insert afterlife of choice here]. | |

| its hard to get through this song without crying or at least wanting to cry.its so sad.i dont think i have ever heard a song with such sad lyrics, and i know lots of sad songs that have made me at least want to cry.by far one of the saddest songs.i think its about either a boy or man who was in an accident that left him in basically a vegetable state.hes only alive because of the life support and he just sits there and stares all day.mary apperson who i think is the she in the song is probably the only one who wants to keep him "alive" but everyone else wonders why they dont just pull the plug.this song is so sad.and my name is adriana, not adrian but pretty close..just the female version..so sad | |

| The saddest line of the song for me... "They talked in a whispered hush, said 'I'd turn the machines off' " | |

| this song brang tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my arms the first time i heard it. this song is really great and i'm sorry to break this posotive chain but her voice doesn't sound very nice at all during this song. her voice is trying to go so high that it just sounds absolutely awful... but its a really nice song overall. | |

| Most probably she knew somebody that this happened to...she practically cries in the song and you can hear the emotion. This song is truly beautiful...its simple yet powerful. | |

| This song has always been one of the tops for me in getting to my emotions. I remember being so young, back in elementary school and this song being so much to me even then. I love the way she sings "Oh, Adrian, come out and play" like she's mad at him - as people sometimes feel when someone's died or similar. | |

| The way she sings this is what really got me. She seems to have such a quiet depth. I love it."And people talk, and people stare" can't you just imagine this the way she describes it? I mean. WHOA. | |
