| I was at her concert a few years ago and Jewel was answering questions from the audience about different things and someone asked if Adrian was about someone she knew...she said she was sorry to disapoint but it wasnt about anyone she knew and the same with the song "Painters". It was very funny how the whole audience kinda let out this sigh which she then began to apologize for saying that she should have just lied and said it was about a personal experience. If you have never seen her in concert she is great...very personal and sounds just as good live as she does on her CDs. I think what it means at the end of the song when it says "Adrian came home again last summer, Things just haven't been the same around here" that he passed away which can be described as going "home" to [insert afterlife of choice here]. | |

| This is such a beautiful and touching song. When I was around ten or so, Jewel was my obsession. 'Pieces of You' was one of the first cd's I owned and this song was the one that was always on repeat. Eventually my mum got so tired of hearing this song that she threw my cd out the window. ;) It's by far my favourite Jewel album. I'm only a fan of her first two cd's, the more recent ones in my opinion weren't as well done and simple. And that's one of the things I love about this song. You don't need 500 instruments and add crazy sound effects to make it beautiful. It was simply done with heartfelt lyrics. I love songs that tell a story. | |

| zeroangel says Adrian woke up from the coma... I'd like to believe that but the tone is just to melancholy. I agree that it might mean he died or possibly that he was moved out of a hospital into like a life support system in his own home, which is possible in some cases, I've heard of it being done usually in hopeless sorts of cases where they don't think the doctors can make things any better so they might as well be with their family. | |

| This song is so sad, and yet so beautiful. I can't get through it without crying. The fact that she stuck around for so long is so touching. | |

| "Adrian came home again last summer, Things just haven't been the same around here" that he passed away which can be described as going "home" to [insert afterlife of choice here]. In response to prettythang, that is a good interpretation, but I like to think of it as a more happy thing. I think when she says he came home again the second time that he woke up from his coma. | |

| So sad, yet so beautiful... her voice reflects the emotion. Yes, it seems as if she literally cries in this song... That is Jewel for you. Such a powerful and moving song and yet so simple... | |

| This has got to be the saddest song I know. Back in sixth grade, I liked Jewel and listened to her "Pieces of You" CD all the time. Once in math class I couldn't stop thinking about the song, and I broke down and started crying right in front of everyone. I think one of the saddest things about this song is that it could easily be true. I've read stories about parents who have their child in a vegetative state who refuse to pull the plug because they have faith that he or she will wake up someday. It's just so sad, because you know nothing can be done, and yet they can't let go... 1 | |
