I'm surprised no one has commented on this song yet - along with Grey Matter, it's one of the best songs on This Way, lyrically and otherwise. She creates an amazing bunch of analogies throughout the tune...basically what it all comes down to is best said by Jewel in an Mp3 I have of her, right before she sings this live. "This is a song about breaking up...not that I was bitter....*sarcastically*"

I really like the sound of this song, and i like the "oh well'ness" about it.

I actually think she also brings the sarcastic introduction into how she feels in the song. i think she's saying sorry in a sarcastic way and basically that the things he made a big deal about were so petty that she doesn't really care and she saying sometimes it be that way meaning whattever it happens so get over it. At least that's how i see it.

I have that same Mp3 of this song and it never fails to crack me up! I definitely recommend this song. It is by far one of my absolute favorites of Jewel's...she has such an interesting style of writing

The particular version of "Sometimes It Be That Way" that you guys are talking about, is from the Swedish radio show "P3 Live". It was recorded in October '97, when Jewel held a concert at Konserthuset, Stockholm. And especially this version of "Sometimes It Be That Way" is WONDERFUL. Actually, I think this is the best recorded concert of Jewel there is. Her voice is on it's peak and the sound quality is top notch.
