This song implies that all the women he slept with actually contributed more to him than just the ephemeral pleasure of an orgasm. All the ladies, represented by one, are free spirits, and greatly contributed to his happiness, and somehow lead to an expansion of his soul. And the beauty of it is that he lets them go to make other people happy as well. All of this meaning contained within 13 short lines, truly makes this song a powerful work of art. As well, the instrumental guitar is so beautiful, how all the notes flow together so perfectly. It's as if the guitar itself is crying from elation. This 2 minute something song is definitely one of my favorites.

This song is really cool, kinda ballady. The lyrics look as if she's in his head, like a guardian angel. Hendrix was often slightly out of it wen he wrote songs tho so mayb thats where the ideas come from ;-)

This is a very beautiful song by Jimi. It's one of my favorites, and I love the riff at the beginning. I went to the RNR Hall of Fame and they had a huge exhibit on Jimi. It had some of the papers that he had actually written lyrics on and alot of his tour clothes. Jimi's music is timeless, and the standard he set on guitar can never be duplicated. It can be emulated, but never duplicated or copied. Jimi was a man of his own.

i must disagree with the above comments. although i must admit that this is unmistakableyone of jimis most beautiful songs, the last 'verse' makes me think otherwise. it come very well be about a significant other in his life. 'a thousand smiles she gives to me free' ruled out the possibility of the song being about a prostitute. i believe that i am wrong in my assumptions, but i still think that they are more likely than that of the guardian angel consept. my post is backed by an interview with jimi yall. this song is about how he had relationships with dozens of the most coveted women on earth of his time(lucky bastard)...anyway, about these girls he said "they're all one girl to me" and this is the concept of little wing. she has to fly on cause they both want to have sex with other people but what they experienced is implied to have been great nonetheless. so it wasn't like they were prostitutes...just free love bandaids or groupies..hehe. FUCK 50 cent, jimi is the eternal black pimp, and the pimp of all nationalities as well.

Another song about Lucille Hendrix (Jimi's Mom) Often he romanticized the memory of his late mom. When in reality, she abandoned him. (See "Gypsy Eyes" & "Angel")

A good number of the posts say that. Is that really relevant?

This song is amazing. It combines this rough, almost like stacatto chords into this beautiful melody. Hendrix was a god. I went to the Toronto Hard Rock Cafe and the guitar he used to play this song was there on the wall. I nearly creamed myself. This song reminds me of this girl I know. She is a free spirit and will cheer you up, even when she is down. Amazing song, possibly my favorite original by Hendrix (I would say All Along the Watchtower is my favorite but that was originally done by Bob Dylan)
