| the guy is saying hear me out here, i've gone through a lot just to reach you tonight ("A thousand nights or more, I travelled east and north, Please answer the door") he's remembering words of strength she gave him during their relationship, and wondering if they are still valid. does she still love him?("You say that love goes anywhere In your darkest time, it's just enough to know it's there") if and when she walks away from him for good, he will leave her alone and hope she is happy, but he can't say that he'll be thrilled. ("When you go, I'll let you be, But you're killing everything in me") His last attempts to make her stay ("I'm done, there's nothing left to show, Try but I can't let go, Are you happy where you're standing still? Do you really want the sugar pill?") he assumes she's already moved on to someone else("As I'm sure your kiss remains employed, Am I only dreaming?") and perhaps wishes he was only dreaming 1 2 3 4 Next | |

| Polaris is about a person in my personal opinion. The north star. He travels east and north to see her. If you take reference from other JEW songs... For Me This Is Heaven... "The first star I see may not be a star" i would say that this song is following a theme about a woman who he would call his star... | |

| Great song! I think this song is the type that talks about looking into the sky, at polaris perhaps, knowing that whomever you care for could be looking at it the same time you are, and that it's kind of their sanity in a time of need. Like in the lyric, "In your darkest time, it's just enough to know it's there." | |

| I still believe this song is about a man's overwhelming addiction to drugs, where he now believes he is in love with the drugs and he actually needs them | |

| Jimmy eat world has the ability to connect to their audience. they have such awesome lyrics, and being a fairly accomplished muscian, i can say that the chord progressions/ overall instrumental quality is awesome. They can do so much with 4 instruments.... A note to mothra- I don't think lurkerabyss got so mad at the "polaris" theory, which could possibly be true, but more at the "jimmy can eat my ass for all i care" comment. I think it is you who could be more open. | |

| I heard an interesting theory about this song... it is actually about how the band Polaris (who did the soundtrack for the TV show Pete and Pete) and that when that band broke up it really hurt the members of Jimmy Eat World.. pretty interesting, though I wish Jimmy Eat Worlds songs were half as good as Polaris's...Jimmy can eat my ass for all i care... well glad i could shed some light on this for yall.. peace | |

| Maybe the star imagery is being used to parallel navigation? ie North Star (I'm southern hemisphere, and we have a star that is always magnetic south, I assume northern hemisphere is the same) is always there, so in "darkest times" you can look to that "star" and find your bearings... Other than that idea, I'm stumped, nice song. | |

| I think that Pain, Drugs Or Me and Polaris are a story. Pain is clearly about how drugs can destroy a relationship, Drugs Or Me is about dealing with the drugs and having to decide which to pick, and Polaris is about the person choosing drugs in the end. "In your darkest time, it's just enough to know it's there When you go, I'll let you be But you're kill everything in me" "I feel that when I'm old I'll look at you and know The world was beautiful" I think those 2 lyrics show that he has chosen drugs over his lover. | |
