| I suppose it COULD conceivably be about suicide. "Don't leave without intentions [of ever coming back]" - as stated before, suicide is a pretty permanent thing. "Vacation, you'd take them, if you wanted you'd ask them" - perhaps thinking about the person who died and regretting/being remorseful. Saying that the person could have taken a break from everything if they wanted. And well, obviously, "graveyard". "Alone I'm outside..." i don't know, it could be interpreted as the guy feeling the effects of the person being gone forever, and observing all the intricate parts of nature. | |

| I just got an idea as to the meaning of this song. What if it's about someone who's considering suicide? "Don't leave without intentions of ever coming back." Suicide is certainly leaving without intending to come back (if you do come back, you didn't do it right). That's all I can really think of to support it (other than the reference to a graveyard). | |

| um...ok...I think it works like this: "Anderson Mesa" - a place in Arizona where the band come from "Don't leave without intentions, don't leave without intentions. My mind's made up, make my own decision. Don't leave without intentions of ever coming back" - a friend has made up their mind that they're leaving. He wants whatever his friend wants to make them happy, but pleads with them to return and not forget about him. "Vacation, you'd take them if you wanted you'd ask them. Vacation, you'd take them if you wanted you'd ask them. Vacation, you'd take them if you wanted" - it isn't a case of just wanting to be away, because if they wanted just to go away they'd take a vacation. They wants to be away for a long time, leaving this place behind. "Alone I'm outside, red sky, I wait there, snowfall above me, so new...yet fading" - He obviously hasn't known the person for as long as he'd like to, as he waits for them knowing that this will be one of their last times together. "Run around or jump the fence, graveyard" - he can either believe they will be together again so or admit to himself that the friendship is as good as dead (jump the fence, graveyard). The friend doesn't seem as concerned as he is. If you disagree, please disregard. Mx. | |

| I am completely blown away everytime I hear this song. I love the part about the red sky and snow. I will never forget a time right after I first heard this song that I was outside at about midnight and it was lightly snowing with a soft red sky. It just about killed me. I like how he uses the fading snow as a metaphor for the relationship he is losing. He just barely started his relationship and it was so new and wonderful to him. Yet, as the pristine snow fades, so does his prospect of love. He makes a desparate plea to continue his relationship by saying "don't leave without intentions of ever coming back." I also love the emotion he has when he says "alone I'm outside." After standing alone outside and watching the snow fall, he realizes that his relationship would forever be altered. As this reality stings, he flees his solemn position in the falling snow in search of a place where nostalgia wouldn't haunt him. He jumps the fence and is in a cemetery. How fitting, how utterly and completely perfect. This song rocks. It is so deep and so beautiful. The only constant is change. The only certainty is death. Static Prevails. | |

| This song is perfect for Static Prevails to end on, its emotional and calm at the same time and just plain amazing. My favorite part is when Jim starts to yell "Alone I'm outside...", that whole verse blows me away. When I hear this song it seems more like there are two sides to it. There is one side that sing, " Don't leave without..." and another that sings " My minds made up..." I get the feeling this was written when Jim or Tom was getting ready to leave Mesa, AZ for the first time long term. He's outside seeing all the beauty of Arizona, all the things he maybe took for granted while living there. It ends with him remembering all the good times hes had there and closes perfectly. Great Song | |

| erm ok.. I think it works like this. as your young you spend time in your childhood with your friends, family and partners, but as you get older things start to change, you come out of school and look for options of what to do with your life, i think this is where 'dont leave with intensions' comes into place where a certin person has high ambitions of getting out to see the world. so i think it is some one saying if you leave dont forget us,dont forget who you are and dont forget where you came from, Andersin Mesa. does anyone agree with me or does any want to correct me if am wrong? | |

| To clarify, the song title doesn't refer to the the city of Mesa where the band is from - Anderson Mesa is an area in the mountains near Flagstaff, AZ. | |

| for anyone who ever lost someone they love dearly, you know what this song means. maybe it could mean something else to someone else, but to me this song is pleading with whomever died to come back, to promise they'll see us again. "don't leave without intentions of ever coming back"- that's what it means. even though there's nothing we can do to bring back people we've lost, you still feel like you can. it's indescribable. i have a feeling this song may be related to "hear you me". | |

| this song is about a friend leaving and trying to get them to stay i guess. i think it's quite personal too, as the lyrics seem specific to a certain place (snow, graveyard...) and i think anderson mesa was a place near where jimmy eat world came from. i'm pretty sure that's right, anyone want to correct me? | |

| something just hit me...."first star i see" ended talking about static prevails and then i thought about clarity. "static prevails" (ie, the confusion previals), and then "clarity" (ie, understanding) Anyone ever thought of that??? i cant beleive i didnt before now. anyhow, i think everyone is just about on about this song...i love when he sings "..yet fading..." for the last time and his voice gets that almost crying tone to it, then the hushed "vacation...you take them..." comes in. its amazing. so emotional. and is it just me, or the last time he sings that "vacation..." line, does he say "...if you want them, if you want ME..." ?? anyone else hear that? that could make a lot of sense. | |

| Don't leave without intentions [of ever coming back]" this is definetly NOT of suicide. notice how (me being an english grammar freak) Don't Leave and without intention both have negative words. basically by correcting the grammatical mistake he says "Leave with intentions of coming back." so he WANTS the person to come back. he is ok with the leaving, as long as it comes back. | |
