Wow, I cried when I listened to this song. It's truly beautiful. I feel so sorry of anyone who has to go through that serious loss. It's amazing how he manages to describe that series of emotional changes that a person goes through. The happiness of knowing she's pregnant, to the sadness with the loss.

I don't think he ever did divorce, but I never knew that his wife miscarried their first child, I just thought this song was about his daughter, Banjo. However, the miscarrying idea does make sense. Great song musically. 1

I think this is about John and his ex-partner. I think she miscarried their child, and in the song he is saying how hurt they are to lose him but so grateful for how it changed them
