"Surely you're not happy now - you no longer play the game."
People say I'm lazy - dreamin' my life away.
Well, they give me all kinds of advice - designed to enlighten me.
F Dm G G
Well they tell 'em that I'm doin fine watching shadows on the wall:
F Dm G G G G
"Don't you miss the big time, boy ? You're no longer on the ball."
F G C Am
I'm just sitting here watching the weels go round and round
F Am Dm7 Dm7/C
I really love to watch them roll.
G G/F Am Am/G
No longer riding on the mercy ground.
F#m7 F Ab6
I just had to let it go.
People asking questions - lost in confusion.
Well, I tell them there's no problem, - only solutions.
shake their heads and they look at me sa if I've lost my mind. -
I tell them there's no hurry. I'm just sitting here doing time.-

One correction:
>G G/F Am Am/G
> No longer riding on the merry ground.
>F#m7 F Ab6
> I just had to let it go.
^^^^ This should be F#m7-5, or Am/F#. (202210)
And someone might want to go through and fix the numerous typos in that
posting. Other than that, the chords look okay.

| I agree about the song being about Sean. People are saying he's crazy and lazy because he isn't in the bigtime anymore even though he easily could be, but he likes to sit and watch the wheels go by (his son's life). I saw a video clip which had been compiled on youtube.com with John playing with Sean at the beach and at the fair. Very cute. | |

| I agree with sham. With the line "Surely you're not happy now you no longer play the game" and "Don't you miss the big time boy you're no longer on the ball" it seems like he's trying to tell people even life without The Beatles is just fine with him. | |

| It is also about how the physical world is an illusion and that he is just doing his time before he moves on to a higher state of being. He figured out that blaming government, people, etc. doesnt work and that we are all just water from different rivers all on different stages of spiritual evolution so he cant blame someone for not understanding because he is blaming himself | |

| I can see it as being more about people who are driven by materialism rather than religion. They see anyone who doesn't feel the need to succeed financially as being misguided. | |

| HaiZuKi is exactly right-It was about people trying to motivate him to re-enter the music business when he was perfectly content just staying at home raising his son. | |

| Why do people take a song with an OBVIOUS meaning, and try to complicate it with nonsense about religion and other crap? If you know a bit about Lennon, and actually read or listen to the lyrics, the meaning is obvious--and it has NOTHING to do with religion or anything like that. Sheesh. | |

| It's one of the greateste Lennon's songs and unfortunately, one of his last songs :(, the song talks about what people said to him when he was just having a rest with his son Sean and he was no longer on the music business. | |

| 'Watching The Wheels' was created by John during a time in his life when he was a stay-at-home Dad with his new son, Sean. While people weren't exactly 'worried' about his lack of musical creation as of late, John just - wrote a song. It was written during a particular time when he was on a TV binge, (more specifically, and slightly comically, the popular, religious late-night television program, 'The 700 Club'.) | |

| Another great song by Lennon, again with the topic of religion. IMO, this is a song about religious people trying to convert him or tell him what he can do to "be better in the eyes of God" or whatever, and he's saying "No, I don't believe." He just wants to sit and enjoy life "watching the wheels go round." He doesn't want to waste the only life he has trying to impress someone that doesn't exist. | |

| I love this song because it kinda describes me and what I want. I really don't care about money, or a big job, or any of that. I don't feel the need to become rich. I also don't believe in god in the sense of a big being in the sky. Im not atheist but thats a different story. This song is really cool and sadly, it was one of John's last. | |
