Intro
(1) Midnight
lock all the doors
and turn out the lights
Feels like the end of the world
this Sunday night
(2) There's not a sound
Outside the snow's coming down
(3) and somehow I can't seem to find
the quiet inside my mind
(1) 3:02
the space in this room
has turned on me
and all my fears have cornered me here
me and my TV screen
(2) The volume's down
Blue lights are dancing around
(3) and still, I can't seem to find
the quiet inside my mind
(4) Daylight is climbing the walls
cars start and feet walk the halls
The world awakes and now I am safe
at least by the light of day

This is a really beautiful song. however, it is rather depressing. to me, the quiet that john is seeking is from all the thoughts of lonliness, worries, troubles, everything that we as humans deal with during our lives. during the day, we're busy and we have no time to think about our problems. but it's in our homes, where we should feel the most comfortable behind locked doors, our problems come out and haunt us sort of. john talks about all his fears cornering him and his tv screen despite the vastness of space in his room. he's referring to all the problems that he has and how they cannot simply be ignored by switching on the tv as one would do to scare away the darkness. eventually daylight comes and he can supress his fears again during the hustle and bustle of the day.

This song reminds me of those nights you just cant stop thinking about someone or something no matter how hard you try to just sleep. But in the morning you can keep yourself busy enough to not think about it and carry on.

in some magazine john said this song was about loneliness being the cause of insomnia. i think that's totally true, and one of the reasons why i can't sleep at night. it's just the feeling that there's someone out there that i haven't found yet and i'm stuck in bed trying to think about other things so i just stay up and watch the sun rise. i think the ending to 'quiet': "daylight is climbing the walls cars start and feet walk the halls the world awakes and now I am safe at least by the light of day" pretty much means tomorrow holds better days. by those lines john was relieved from all those thoughts in his mind and he's ready to live once again.

I believe that John isn't thinking about one thing or one person, but its just one of those nights that something keeps you up and you don't kno what it is. Very well written song. John has a way of writing the simplest and realist things in a claver way. favorite part daylight is climbing the walls cars start and feet walk the halls the world awakes and now I am safe at least by the light of day

This song, to me, describes temporary insomnia. Just that time period where you are trying to go to sleep, and you have a million thoughts running through your head and you keep thinking you're going to fall asleep soon, but you just watch night turn to day.

This is probably the song i can relate to the most of almost any song. I do iut all the time. I get caught up thinking about something and suddenly i realise how late it is but i just can't sleep. time seems to crawl past. "3:02, the space in this room, has turned on me." I know that feeling so well. When morning finally comes it's like you heave this huge sigh of releif. thats what the last verse sounds like to me... a sigh of releif. but the promise of tommorrow night is still looming over your head... "And now I am safe, at least by the light of day..."

I guess this song is about wanting some space. something is bothering him and he can't quite sort it out. "theres not a sound, outside the snows coming down and somehow i cant seem to find the quiet inside my mind" to me is saying that hes got so much locked up inside his head that nothing can get this out of his head. i dunno this is just how i see this song, its a great song
