okay, so the main riff goes
e-------------------------
B-------------------------
G---0-----------------4---
D--0-0----4-----4----4-4--
A--------0-0---4-4--2-----
D-5-----0-----4-----------
after a while the piano does some chords which you can do by...
e-3~----2~----------------
B-3~----3~----------------
G-0~----2~------------4---
D-0~----4~------4----4-4--
A-0~----0~-----4-4--2-----
D-X-----0~----4-----------
OR, you could play in normal tuning with the following four chords
G 3 2 0 0 3 3
D X 0 0 2 3 2
F# 2 4 4 3 2 2
Bm X 2 4 4 3 2
and just bash those out repeatedly...

| "Fact is only what you believe" is absolutely a true statement. If you were told something preposterous by a very reliable source, you would most likely accept it. That statement would definitely be a certain fact, simply because you believe it. I think that is a great line, as is the whole song amazing. King Simple had a great explaination of the lyrics and i advise you to read his again. | |

| His voice on this song is incredible. And it is brought out by the soft piano in the background. The piano part doesn't seem too complicated-only a few chords repeated. Which makes me think jack himself is playing the piano. If this is true, then it would probably rock in concert. The lyrics are wack. They are confusing and seemingly make no sense. I would love an explanation on them. If Jack is a realativist(as he seems to be claiming), he really doesn't give a reason why. He seems to be saying that "it's all realative because I don't understand." | |

| this song is simply how conforming our country has become just like simple said, tell people something and that is what they blv. sad that people gave up on first impressions and what they hear is the lasting one rather than deciding for themselves. if people mag says britney's the hottest thing out there, hey there's no room for argument cuz ppl forgot how to argue. it's like there's subliminal messages in everything now. | |

| this song is about following the masses, believing what you are told. if you listen to the entire album, you can almost feel a theme in the songs. the first verse shows if you're beautiful, you're popular. no matter how boring and unoriginal you are. the second is stating that the media corrupts or sensationalizes the truth for ratings or what have you. and the last and best verse describes his battle in himself about God and faith. and, if you question the norm, you are considered a non-believer. | |

| this is one of my favorite songs of all time. it has great, meaningful lyrics and his voice is SO amazing. i think its about how the world is just a bunch of people doing whats expected of them. they're told to like something, so they do. like brainwashing, i suppose. | |

| i just had a shower revelation..you know where you're in the shower and you're thinking about something and then suddenly it makes complete sense?! well yea, just had that happen. okay, this is totally just what I think, basically throughout the song he's just saying what he believes and what he's seen and observed and at the end he says "There you go once again you missed the point and then you point your fingers at me and you say that I said not to believe" b/c some people will listen to the song and twist it around as him saying that you should believe the same things he does, which he's not, he's simply stating what he believes but if he's somehow proved wrong and they believed the same thing as he did then they have to point your finger and blame someone so it must be him since he wrote this song. basically just saying how nothing is ever "your" fault and that we always have to blame others. does that make since to anyone? i don't think i explained it really well but i tried..i could form it into perfect words just like an hour ago in the shower! | |

| I find it very hard to not question one's faith nowadays. Religion is something that can never be proven, you just basically have to believe, and that is what faith exactly is. Making a jump from the real world we know to another that just seems totally like a fairy tale story. And to step back away from your own and see that there are hundreds upon hundreds of other religions, its hard to say that yours is right or to even realize that religion is just something that all societies seem to form in order to explain the way things are. Much like each of the Gods in Roman times to explain why the way things are, Christianity has one God to explain everything. I find it so hard to believe sometimes and I feel that Jack's just saying you should just believe for your betterment and that's the point you should not miss. "Well its all just because, even if we don’t understand. Let’s all just believe." I think possibly the second verse could relate to the bible not media. The bible is a collection of stories, a "magazine" with tons of articles telling you what to believe. A book that was spread all over the world and in the end it could be possibly all fiction. I agree a lot with king simple, this song has a lot to do with the one's battle of faith and.... well.... nothing. | |

| "The good book is good/and that's well understood/so don't even question if you know what i mean" that line is my favorite. Nobody questions their faith, but if you don't how can you tell if it is perfect. All those headstrong, closed-mined people take this line literally, but I believe Jack means it sarcastically. | |

| When I first heard this song, my impression was that Jack was using sarcasm to point out that people have lost a personal connection with “God” or a higher being. Poking at the idea that people believe what their fellow man says rather than what they feel is right. I began to think he was singing about how some religions or people are only followed because others tell them that it is the way, but in the end “it’s almost always fiction”. After several more weeks of listening to it, I started to see it in a completely new light. What if Jack wasn’t ripping on religion but was rather saying that no matter what we think, there is an ultimate truth? That’s what I think this song is about now, an ultimate truth. No matter how many different opinions there are on a topic, or belief… there IS an ultimate truth. Hence – “even if we don’t under stand… it’s all understood”. If one correlates this to religion, it would be interpreted that there are many different beliefs, but only one is right. Which one? Who knows… but somewhere someone i.e. God knows the ultimate truth. If one correlates this to the media, or a story, it’s would mean that everyone saw what happened slightly differently, but in the end there is only one truth. But we as humans don’t like the idea that what we believe or saw might not be the exact ultimate truth, so we “just believe”. | |

| this is one of the greatest songs of the 00's i think, whethere jack knew it or not, it sounds a lot like a hindu song. I like the way his music reflects our time, and how people act and in this case an attitude that people have or don't have. | |

| this song is amazing...I agree with all the previous comments...but when I first heard the song and read the lyrics...what really hit me other then what all of the other comments said was the confusion in it all...not only recognising the "fake-ness" of the world we're living in...but surpassing it and living with the confusion of what's fact and what's fiction | |

| I think that the song's just Jack Johnson's feelings on the media and how it affects people. How people just become influenced to think and act a certain way cuz the media makes them. "Well this part is good and that’s well understood so you should laugh if you know what I mean." Also Jack Johnson is questioning God b/c he heard that he shouldn't believe everything reads, so he's wondering if that means he shouldn't believe the Bible. Then, he's saying that this is just what he believes and he doesn't want to force others to believe the same b/c that's what he's complaining about in the first place. | |
