A--3----2----0-----3-- -10--10---7---3--
E--------------------- -8---7----5---1--

I play it with the regular chords otherwise there's too
much moving around. Those chords continue through the whole
song pretty much. That awesome lick that he plays between
verses goes something like what I tabbed below

b=bend /=slide h=hammer p=pull off

e-------------------------------------------------------
B-------------------------------------------------------
G-------------------------------------------------------
D------------------------------------------1p0-0--------
A--3-3--1h3-1h3-1h3-----------1-1-1-1/3-3-----3-3-------

D---------------------3-3/5-5-5\3-2-0----3--
A-----1---1---1-1/3-3----------------3-3----
E--1h3-1h3-1h3------------------------------

After that it's real hard to figure out so instead I play
a C and slide it up to D, F, and G like it does near the
of the song

Lyrics:

She just wanders around
Unaffected by the winter winds air
She pretends that she's somewhere else
So far and clear
2000 miles from here

Taylor was a good girl
Never one to be late
Complain express ideas in her brain
Working on the night shift
Passing out the tickets
You're going to have to pay her
If you want to park here

Well Mommy's little dancer's
Quite a little secret
She's working on the streets now
Never going to keep it

It's quite an imposition
And now she's only wishin'
That she would have listened
To the words they said
Poor Taylor

Peter Patrick pitter patters on the window
And Sunny's silhouette won't let him in
And poor old Peter's got a nothin
Cuz he's been fallin
But somehow Taylor knows
Just where he's been
He thinks that singing on Sunday's gonna save his soul
Now that Saturday's gone
And sometimes he thinks that he's on his way
but I can see that his brakelights are on

When Taylor finds a better world
Taylor's gonna run the world

There's another version on the same demo CD that doesn't
sound like much anything else on the CD. He plays the
chords fairly muted throughout the song and sings the
first verse ("She just wanders around...2000 miles from
here") instead of playing that fancy little diddy. After
"his brakelights are on" he raps out a whole other verse.
Try to get this version, I noticed a lot of people on
Napster had this version but they all cut off before the
new verse. It goes something like this

She's such a tough enchalada
Filled up with nada(?)
Given what she gotta give to get a dollar bill

She used to be limber chicken
Time has been a ticken
Now she's finger licken to the man
with the money in his pocket
Flying in his rocket
Only stopping by on his way to a better world

When Taylor finds a better world
Taylor's going to run away

i think "Taylor" isn't exactly about a girl that is a hooker, she is just lost and seaching for herself. and trying to find somewhere else where things are clear.

Taylor is a prostitute and Peter is a john. He's wandering around because his wife Sunny just locked him out of his house. The reason is Sunny like Taylor also knows where he's been. But I could be wrong.

Hey everybody. I love this song. It's really good. Just one thing, does anybody know if there's a particular reason he called the girl Taylor or was it just a random name that sounded good? Anyway, I think the lyrics are a really clever way of getting across the tragedy of prostitution. Fantastic song

I adore this song for two reasons, one my name is Taylor and two this song is just amazing. i believe this song is about a prostitute, peter is a john and sunny is peters wife. they say "he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul" i think hes talking about making a mistake and he thinks going to church is going to fix it.

I always thought that Peter Patrick was just a man who is drinking, doing drugs, maybe he is a john, but anyway, I think Sunny's silhouette means that he's trying to get into the light of life, but singing on Sunday is not going to save his soul. Maybe I'm just too analytical.

To me this song tells the story of a girl called taylor who turned from being a "good girl" with a good future, into a street worker who has lost her way in life. She once was respected by society, but is now useful only to "the man with the money in his pocket". Taylor realizes this and procedes to take her own life at the end of the song ("and taylor finds a better world, and taylor's gonna run away")

I always thought that the song was talking about a prostitute or a stripper: just a girl who didn't know what she was getting into when she left home, and now she's stuck. I'm kind of confused on the "Peter Patrick" part; does anyone have any ideas? I've just been taking it as a guy who is just drifting through life, not really going anywhere, and like Taylor, he dreams that he's far away.

FuzzMonkey10 is right on the "enchilada" lyrics. This song has such a catchy beat to it, even though (I think) it's about infidelity. Taylor reminds me of Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman, because she knows she can be better than, ahem, what she is. If anyone gets a chance to check out the JJ/Ben Harper concert this summer, it is absolutely amazing -- JJ is the best live act I've ever seen!

I don't think that it could be anymore obvious what this song is about...It seems clear to me that Taylor is one who sells her innocence and that Peter Patrick is a man who indulges in these sexual services. Sunny “won’t let him in” because she “knows, just where he's been.” Or for those of us who can’t rub both of our brain cells together; she knows he has been cheating and so she metaphorically won’t “let him in”, or in other words she is mad at him. When Jack states that “he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul, now that Saturday’s gone,” he is making a Christian reference in that if Peter goes to church on Sunday it won’t make up for his indulgences of the previous evening. A “better world” is simply a privileged life; the man stops by (for sex) and then goes home to his “better world.”
