Home J Johnson, Jack Gone Guitar Tab

Gone Bass Tab
First off, I must give credit where its due. This is based off of ZososoZ's Tab,
however I had a discrepancy with the notes played. I think that you play the 1st,
2nd, & 3rd strings more. I also agree with RalfE that there is an extra open note
that is played but open D does not sound correct. So here is my version of it. And
it sounds pretty flawless to me. This can also be played with the Black-Eyed Peas'
song Gone Going this they do sample this song. For any problems/comments, e-mail:
d_ace_is@hotmail.com Enjoy.

i love this phrase "and what about your soul? is it cold? is it straight from the mold and ready to be sold?" it makes you really think about yourself. this song kinda reminds me of all the fake people in the world. who fancy themselves up to be like everyone else and change themselves. be true to yourself because not everything goes with you when your "gone"

Maybe my best one too. I always see a business man or rich executive when i hear this one. I iremember watching tourists carrying loads of bags with them of possesions they think they need when I listened to this in an airport once when i had nothing but a scruffy rucksack and felt so free!

I love jack johnson. i live in Santa barbara (where he went to school) You don't even have to listen to the words, although it makes it all that much better, just listen to the music. It reminds me of home and exactly the mood in SANTA BARBARA!!!

i like the lyrics to this song...i think maybe its about an ex girlfriend...or someone he knew in the past who made it big. they have all these fancy things...nice clothes and diamonds and cars and money...but like he says in the song "and what about those shoes you're in today they'll do no good on the bridges you've burnt along the way..." i think that is telling this person that no matter how rich you are now and no matter how much you try to show it off...you severed a lot of relationships to get there...and was it really worth it? and the part "leave your footprints and we'll shame them with our words" i like..because its so true. if someone changes you sooooo much and then leaves you for something "better" no matter what it is, you will always hold a grudge against them...

to me, its about getting rapped up in everyday impunities. loooking at possessions as happiness and loosing yourself on the way. your identity gets wrapped up in materialism. it's about modern society and the way the things that should matter and be of the utmost importance dont matter anymore...just my input althoug everyone interprets things differently.

“Look at all these fancy clothes” – I think jack is trying to express this song to rich people with what they want, not what they really need. By listening to this first line, my first thought was how maybe this was for girls and what they always want, to buy clothes, nice and expensive clothes. But when I heard the second line, “But these could keep us warm just like those,” I thought about myself and what I where, these cheap Ross clothes which cover the same or more skin for the body, keeping us warm, meaning it doesn’t matter how much the clothes are, or how good looking or raggedy looking they are, it will all do the same thing, keep us warm. “And what about your soul, is it gold,” it makes you really think about yourself, on what you do in life and how you plan on doing in the future. “And cars and phones and diamond rings, bling bling. Those are only removable things.” This hit by surprise because I really want a car so I can get to places, meaning that I need it, and also a diamond ring, everyone understands if you get one to be married, but if you get one just for “Bling Bling,” then that is like just wasting money. Also the phone, people want it, and people need it, there is a big difference in the words, “Want” and “Need,” needing it is like just in case there is an accident then you would call 911, but if it is like just talking on the phone 24/7, then that is wanting one, for no reason, to be cool having a cell phone. When he says "gone people all awkward with their things, gone” He’s saying that once you have all your “wanting” material/utilities. You’ll be left always looking for something more. "And what about those shoes you're in today they'll do no good on the bridges you've burnt along the way..." I think that is telling this person that no matter how rich you are now and no matter how much you try to show it off, along the way you have severed a lot of relationships jus to get there. "leave your footprints and we'll shame them with our words," I like that line, if someone changes your appearance a lot, but then leaves you for something or someone "better," no matter what it is, you will always hold a grudge against them. “Gone going gone everything gone give a damn,” To me this part of the song means that no one will give a damn when your gone, because you wasted all your money just to have someone judge you on how you look. “Gone be the birds when they don’t want to sing,” this part hit me confusing, I didn’t really get this part, but I imagined that it means that there wont be birds singing later on in the future because they’ll be used as clothes, expensive clothes just for wealthy people who want to look good. “Gone” This song kind of relates to my life, that I would like people to judge me on how I dress nice and clean. But shirts are like $24.00, at Hawaii stores, very expensive, so I started shopping at Ross’s, they have great deals, and they have nice shirts, not fancy but, just general clean shirts that I like to wear, I didn’t really care of what I looked like or what I wore during 8th grade to 11th, but 12th grade I started caring of how I dressed, and I tried to match, even though I still couldn’t. The reason why is because I wanted to judge me on how I looked. What I am willing to change is how I don’t need all the little things, like a console platform, or a motorbike, or a canoe, because I won’t need it in the future, I would be to busy with college and job and other things. My favorite part in the song is: “Gone going gone everything gone give a damn,” I think the only reason why I liked this part of the song is because it’s the only part I new about.

not to sound offensive, but would jack really want to be called "the shit"? Anyways, this is an awesome song, and it reminds me of all of the people at my school who just care about their shiny purses, make up, boyfriends who probably are cheating on them anyways, who they will break up with in two days, and then my friends and i who think the world of each other, and we need little else

don't think so. I'm pretty sure Jack isn't a hipocrite. probably does a lot of charity stuff. I think it's about people's obsession with material objects and how in this obsession they lose themselves because their too buisy buying stuff to care about anything else

Dam beautiful song. I mean where does he come up with this stuff. It's partly about how superficial and wastefull we can be as a society. When the birds don't wanna sing they become diosposable.

I wonder if I'm the only one who really wonders just how Jack Johnson is with his money. Does he buy a lot of material baggage too? Or is he actually outside of the box of the overpaid celebrity? I like to think he's better than them.

i think this song is definately about how much people cherish material things in life more than relationships, it might be about a particular person, like an old girlfriend...or it could just be about people in general. but i totally know what he means in this song, these lyrics mean alot to me. when he says"gone people all awkward with their things gone." it pretty much sums it up, because hes saying that once you have all your stupid material things...youll be left always looking for something more.
