I love how many references to the north shore he leaves in his work. I went to school at sunset beach elementary and my dad used to pay his dad the water bill when i lived on ke iki road. Jack was 8 years older when he lived there but he refers to over to the field which im guessing is the soccer field and backstop of sunset beach elementary across from ehukai where he lived. The sugar mill is a bit down the road but is nearby his highschool which i have to guess was Kahuku high- so maybe this song was written during that part of his life. He has the best music ive ever heard in my life and its amazing what a small world it turns out to be in the end.

This song is all about good times with the friends. When he says "big hits, big hats, ya give me the ball" he is mentioning his nickname. His friend used to call him "big hats". This is a good song to relax to when your with your friends.

he says the only reason they laughed a lot was because they thought that everything good always would remain... dya think that if they knew then what they know now then growin up wouldnt have been half as much fun. ignorance is bliss.

i know this song makes many refrences to the north shore, but it is also about growin up and holdin on to memories whether its doin some wild crazy thing w/ ur friends or just hangin out doin nothin @ all, u will remember those times, and u do not realize it, but u can't hold on to these days together forever(u and ur friends), and the days just hangin out together are the days u will remember "One day these could be the days but who could have known" when jack says: "We used to laugh a lot But only because we thought That everything good always would remain Nothing's gonna change there's no need to complain" i think he means that when u r w/ ur friends u don't realize it but ur time together is swindling, and u keep tryin to tell urself that nothings ever goin to change, but it does change and someday u might drift apart, and u need to accept that and realize that, i know i am very young and jack points out to me that i need to cherish the time spent w/ my friends.

moe lerner was a guy Jack used to play football with. a big, fat hawian guy that you probably caught a glimpse of at jack's concert in central park with dispatch.

this song is tied for number one in my book. tied with better together. although all his songs TOTALL Y KICK ASS.... anywho i believe big hats is referring to his friend, not him, but i could be wrong... anywho i think its unanimous that "We used to laugh a lot But only because we thought That everything good always would remain Nothing's gonna change there's no need to complain" is the best part of the song....

i love jack johnson so much because his music reminds me why i love my home (hawaii) without it having to be annoying hawaiian music. the first time i heard this song, i knew he was talking about the north shore. i've spent a lot of time up there. cruise through haleiwa listening to jack johnson. nothing beats that. does anyone know who moe lerner is? becuase the song is called Mud Football (For Mor Lerner). maybe he was a childhood friend who died, and jack was inspired to write this song. that would explain the line "that everything good always would remain" that was just my though on it.

This is such a great song....Jack's lyrics never fail to amaze me. I have been listening to this song a lot lately...sometimes it makes me sad, sometimes it makes me happy. It reminds me of my friends and I. We are all going away to school in about two months so this kind of reminds me of how it's our last summer together. So we do all our favorite old things but then come Monday we still have to get on the bus, so to speak, and leave. COME TO BOSTON JACK!

This song is great, it makes me happy and sad whenever I listen to it because it makes me think 'gee this is my last year with everyone I love, and pretty soon we'll go our seperate ways'. But it makes me happy cause its so happy sounding and makes me think of all the fun stuff me and my friends have done. COME TO MINNEAPOLIS JACK! (nov 20 *holds breath)
